How do you find a good divorce solicitor?

I’ve decided to speak to a solicitor about divorcing my husband because I can no longer stand the emotional abuse he’s put me through for the past two decades. I can find plenty of solicitors who do divorce work, but is there anywhere that I can find reviews so that I don’t waste what little money I have on one that’s not so good at their job? I’ve only ever used a solicitor for conveyancing and some have been appalling. I don’t want to end up with an unfair settlement because my solicitor is incompetent.

Is there anyone you know locally you can ask for a recommendation? I spoke to a handful and went with the one who seemed to ‘get’ my situation (emotional abuse) a friend of mine had one that was very litigious and it dragged it all out and cost a load more money although she did get the right outcome in the end. Flowers for how you are feeling

Thank you Fantina 😊 I’ve not told anyone, northerly friends nor family what I’m planning. I’m not sure why, but I sort of think it’s a mix of embarrassment that I’ve ‘failed’ at marriage and not wanting anyone to try talking me out of it, so I’m hoping to get an initial appointment with a solicitor to find out exactly what the process involves and what I might be entitled to - very little I fear since there’s not a lot to begin with 😕

Northerly? I’m not in the North, so I’d struggle to tell anyone Northerly 🤦🏻‍♀️
