Would you date someone who had the same name as your abusive, violent ex?

Completely get that it's just a name, but the association of who it reminds me of really is playing on my mind
Matched with someone on tinder. He's really lovely so far. However, his name is the exact same spelling and variation of my exes who nearly broke me.
Not sure whether to carry on talking to him or not as I'm not sure I can get past it, but.. He's really nice so far and have no other reason whatsoever to dislike him..

I dated a guy after who had the exes name as his middle name, and found it really bothered me even as a middle name. Wouldn't do it again!

No!

I wouldn’t even think about it. It’s just a name. Make up your own nickname for him if you have to.

I think I could get past it tbh. Ive had three boyfriends called Matthew, two called Daniel, two called Tim ... I didn't associate the name with the ex when I was with any of them.

I wouldn't think twice honestly. A name is just a name, it doesn't make a person. My mum dated someone who had my dads name (dad was abusive) and he honestly was the nicest guy, and made her super happy whilst they were together.

Wouldnt bother me but my son is named after my abusive ex partner ( his dad ) so I've already learnt to bury any feelings of dislike I have against the name
