I am thinking of divorcing my husband. I will have a civil service pension when I retire. It is in my maiden name. When I got married 10 years ago I was told I would have to send my original marriage cert to the pension scheme agency in order to change it to my married name. I did not want to do this at the time as the pension provider could not guarantee it could send back the marriage cert safely. Due to experience of post getting lost, I am loathe to do this. On divorce, I understand that you surrender your marriage cert. I wondered if I can get another original marriage cert so I have one to give to the solicitor and one to send to the pension agency. Advice welcome.
