Why is his exs name coming up on mobile banking?

My phone is damaged and I needed to log in to my online banking this morning so my OH offered me the use of his phone. He went to the TSB website then handed it to me to log myself in. When I clicked on the bar to enter my details his exes name came up. First and last.

I asked him how that would come about and he said he doesn't know.

Does that indicate that she's used his phone to access online banking or what? Confused

What do you mean, it came up on his payee list, it came up as an autofill option for the login, or it came up on his transactions list? I’m not sure what you mean.

Sorry I wasn't clear. It came up as an auto fill option for log in.

So she’s logged into it on his phone before that means

Itwasntmeright · 28/02/2022 22:14

She’ll have used his phone to login before then. My DS’s name comes up when I login on my browser as well, even though he hasn’t logged in on it for ages.

Itwasntmeright · 28/02/2022 22:16

Yeah, otherwise why would it come up? It might not have been for a long time, but clearly she’s used his phone to login at some point before. Is there something saved in his keychain or something?

TheBigDilemma · 28/02/2022 22:17

My ex helped me to set up my first iphone by placing his next to mine 13 years ago.

3 iPhones and 2 iPads later his name still appears as an auto fill option from time to time.

I can assure you he has not used my phone for anything in his life, he has not even been close to them for more than a decade. It is pure laziness on my part, I could change the auto fill options but I have not been bothered to find how.

Does your OH have children with his ex? Is it possible they have a tablet or laptop that's gone between houses and a browser like Chrome is saving login details and passwords to your OH's account?

Comingout0fmycage · 28/02/2022 22:35

Or he has tried to access her online banking himself....

FairyCakeWings · 28/02/2022 22:40

I wouldn’t automatically assume something bad. I once tried to pay online for something and my mum’s details came up. There is genuinely no reason we can think of how or why they could have made the link. I’ve also had iCloud things come up for my ex in the past as it somehow linked us, presumably through our children.

28birthdays · 28/02/2022 22:40

They have children together yes, as do we.

The phone he's using I bought him for Christmas two years ago and he swears blind she hasn't used it.

When I asked him to elaborate on 'I don't know why it's there' he said it could be because they shared a bank account (7.5 years ago) but that bank wasn't TSB it was metro.

DSC do bring their tablets round (Amazon fire)

It seemed to me that she's either used his phone to log in to her banking or as PP suggested he's tried to log in to her online banking himself.

Most likely he's tried to log into hers if the phone is that new

That’s weird my mum has an iPhone and so do I and we have the same bank but her log in as never appeared on my phone, doesn’t make sense
CookPassBabtridge · 28/02/2022 23:45

My saved passwords have been on my phone years and transferred onto every new phone I get. She's probably logged in with his phone years ago.
Why are you so worried?

Josette77 · 01/03/2022 01:05

Because passwords get saved in the cloud.

ArnoldBee · 01/03/2022 01:08

I get auto fill suggestions from other things I have used all the time. For example I used an online form for youngest DCs school trip info and it bought up options for hubby's name etc. Stuff happens - don't panic!

Fupoffyagrasshole · 01/03/2022 01:18

It doesn’t matter that the phone is new

If he wet it up from Evan old back up it will be exact same to oh there as his old phone
So auto fill etc would stay sane al always surely

Mogul · 01/03/2022 11:10

Auto fill can be stored in your google account. If she logged in on a device that he was signed in to google on at any point in the past it can be saved, the idea is when you buy a new device you don't have to teach it all your details

Cas112 · 01/03/2022 11:15

I sometimes get auto fill of my ex's address from about 6 years ago and that's even on my phone I've had for a year.

Think its linked from my email address or something. God knows but I know my ex hasn't been on my phone and I have had nothing delivered to that address from this phone

ElleGB · 01/03/2022 11:16

I’ve had the same Apple ID for over ten years, no matter how old the phone is when you log in to your Apple ID on a new phone all the log ins/data can transfer because it’s saved in the cloud.

MangoBiscuit · 01/03/2022 11:17

It doesn't have to be the device that's been used, but a synced account. For example, my exH's just eat log in details popped up on my phone, even though he's never even touched the device. He has previously (years ago) logged in using my old phone, which was using my Google account. He saved the details, which were then saved on my account. I have had to go to manage passwords and delete the ones he saved on mine.

Could it be a situation like that?

CornishGem1975 · 01/03/2022 11:19

Agree, my saved passwords, login and autofill is linked to my Apple ID so I get email addresses popping up from 10-12 years ago sometimes!

LlamasintheFog · 01/03/2022 11:26

Not a techie but the most likely explanation is innocent - that either Apple or Google have saved the login details for the ex in the cloud, from ages ago. It's obviously possible that something dodgy is going on but unless you have some other reason for concern. I would put it down to this

MunchyMonsters · 01/03/2022 11:49

My sons friend lived with us for a while 6 years ago. She used my phone once and her name still comes up occasionally.
