Nerdy Goth Partner - Valentine's help!!

Nickwinkle · 11/02/2022 16:02

Yeah, yeah I know. I left it too late...

I'm absolutely stumped and in dire need of some help so reaching out to you lovely MNers in hope you can provide some assistance 🙂

It's mine and my partner's second valentine's and I've genuinely no idea what to get him. I've actually never had to buy a valentine's present before, or even received one (ex husband was a knob of the highest order), so I don't even know what the norm is and what you're expected to get someone.

He's a joiner by trade, pc gamer, loves miniature painting and is a rocker/goth. I've already covered the obvious presents for birthdays and Christmas so now I'm just 🤷‍♀️.

Any quirky ideas?!

You just need Etsy

My house is full of all kinds of weird goth and gamer shit

No norms, I think valentine's is kind of pointless and if he's a non traditional goth type he might think so too!

But a romantic gesture is always sweet. Does he drink? A nice bottle of his fav booze, cooking his fav dinner (restaurant bookings are a rip of on v day) - as above, something fun from Etsy. Doesn't have to be a big splash the cash present.

@Nickwinkle Lush has a shower jelly shaped like an anatomical heart. It might appeal to a nerdy goth. I’ve got one for my DH. I’m going to do the “Close your eyes and hold out your hand….” trick on V Day because I’m so mature.

loves miniature painting

Would a goth themed ACEO card be his thing? There are plenty on eBay and Etsy.

Just to add, as it probably wouldn't arrive in time you could screenshot it and let him know it's on its way.

I was a bit of a goth in my youth and I remember making a card with a picture of an actual heart on it (complete with aorta and coronary arteries etc). It went down quite well with my then boyfriend

Sparkletastic · 11/02/2022 19:00

Does he drink / eat chocolate? I don't think you need to be too outré on Valentine's Day

frozendaisy · 11/02/2022 19:37

Skull candles

Harry potter self stirring cauldron mug

frozendaisy · 11/02/2022 19:37

Goblet for wine

Black rose bath bomb from LUSH

Trip to Whitney bay (it's where Dracula landed apparently)

frozendaisy · 11/02/2022 19:44

"interview with a vampire" book by Anne Rice, if not read, unlikely but it's a great philosophy novel dressed up as goth.

Sisters of Mercy 12" "temple of love" song, the dancefloor goth anthem......

frozendaisy · 11/02/2022 19:49

And it's got "love in the title" ....you run for cover in the temple of love

Terriergrrrrrrrr · 11/02/2022 19:52

Trip to Whitney bay (it's where Dracula landed apparently)
Whitby, North Yorkshire. Although it'll be a bit cold just now

Some high quality miniature brushes would be good or search for 'Helping Hands with Glass Magnifier'. You don't want anything that will grip delicate models too tightly or leave marks, but having something to hold your models hands free is very useful.

loves miniature painting and is a rocker/goth. I've already covered the obvious presents for birthdays and Christmas so now I'm just

AnImposter · 11/02/2022 20:13

I'd just go for some black roses tbh x

frozendaisy · 11/02/2022 20:16

@Terriergrrrrrrrr yep that's the place all the more reason to cuddle up and stay warm ....... Still revert to "how goth?" Goths tend to not prefer heat/sunshine ....grey dismal vampire landing sites are a different matter Grin

frozendaisy · 11/02/2022 20:22

Or Sugar Spin Sister by Stone Roses a modern love song classic ........

SerotoninAnswerMySoul · 11/02/2022 21:13

Obviously a tiny coffin with your heart in.

SerotoninAnswerMySoul · 11/02/2022 21:14

Or pig heart in a jar. That is so goth.

SerotoninAnswerMySoul · 11/02/2022 21:15

Or of no actual hearts, miniature painting of an anatomically correct heart.

yodaandmedication · 11/02/2022 21:34

Get him the Rob Zombie Live, Laugh , Love plaque

Nickwinkle · 11/02/2022 21:59

Some of these responses have really tickled me 😂 thanks, guys!

He's goth goth and he's very romantic so no getting out of this one! Think old, Victorian vampire... Yep, high cheek bones and all 🤤

I did the whole brush thing for Christmas and got him a wet pallet off the cats for father's Day so I don't really want to go down that route again, but thanks for the idea :)

I was thinking of taking him to Whitby Goth weekend later on in the year. We're a tad too far to pop over for the weekend. Great suggestion though!

Maybe the pigs heart in a jar? 😂 Although I can already see the weird look I'd get. Would pickle juice do from Tesco? Hahaha.

Amazon has a black rose in a display case... Is that too girly or soppy? I'm sure either way he would be happy but I just don't want to seem like I'm copping out!

I'm a goth, you cannot go wrong with a cuddly bat IMO. 👍🏻

DeadButDelicious · 11/02/2022 22:13

Pressed send to soon! I'm quite crafty and one year I crocheted my husband a little black heart. He keeps it on a shelf near his computer.
