for anyone who's seen any of my recent posts, you may know that my in-laws are the oddest people ever.

We told them last night I was pregnant - and it was exactly the same as last time!

DP: DS1 will be getting a brother or sister!

PIL: SILENCE.......

FIL: Oh right.

MORE SILENCE.

Then after several minutes MIL started up with the "Oh dear, DS1 won't like that, he'll be all pushed out!"

Hahahaaaaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaaaa whatever.

I'm not telling them next time!

lol at not telling them next time!

MerryBiglipsmas · 31/12/2007 08:51

strange!!....what did they say last time...even though it was your first time pg?

snowfunwhenyoureknackered · 31/12/2007 08:52

congrats boho!

belgo · 31/12/2007 08:52

yes presumably they didn't say exactly the same thing last time

dooley1 · 31/12/2007 08:52

blimey, they sound awful!!

boHOHOhemianbint · 31/12/2007 08:53

Hmmm....last time (bear in mind it was 1st ever grandchild) we got:

DP: We're having a baby!

PIL: SILENCE.......

FIL: Oh right.

MORE SILENCE.

After several minutes, MIL says "oooh, so and so's just had a baby."

Then silence....for about 6 months.

we got a similiar response from ours, both 1st and 2nd pregnancies.

my sympathies to you!

belgo · 31/12/2007 08:55

yes they do sound like the oddest people ever.

Congratulations btw

MaryAnnSingleton · 31/12/2007 08:55

weirdos - congratulations !!!!!!!!

MerryBiglipsmas · 31/12/2007 08:55

very strange!!

well i do hope you enjoy ya pg for the next 9 months

boHOHOhemianbint · 31/12/2007 14:35

Thanks for all the congrats!

Glad it is strange. Sometimes there's so much strangeness I start wondering if it's me being weird and not them!

CONGRATULATIONS. Sounds to me as if they don't know how to congratulate or give praise. I assume that this isn't the only department in which they're a bit odd?!!

WigWamBam · 31/12/2007 18:38

Sounds a bit like my MIL when dh told her we were expecting dd:

She said, and I quote word for word ... "Oh".

Then changed the subject.

Don't worry about them; in the scheme of things, their response doesn't matter one jot.

Congratulations ... you are at least guaranteed a lovely response here psmile]

WanderingTrolley · 31/12/2007 18:45

Congratulations!

They are quite disgusted you have had your wicked way with their son. They were entertaining fantasies involving your separate bedrooms and lots of praying. Now there is no denying their son is a slut. Twice. They are dying of embarrassment and will no doubt have told all their relatives your ds was a foundling and the new baby is the Second Coming.

How and when will you be telling them of the new baby's arrival?

dirtygertiefromnumber30 · 31/12/2007 18:45

this was my 'lovely' MIL's reaction to the news of pregnancy no2

me: we've got some good news - I'm pregnant.

MIL: oh right. I hope it's a girl this time, deserves some good luck for once...

dirtygertiefromnumber30 · 31/12/2007 18:46

ps congrats to you!!!

Desiderata · 31/12/2007 18:47

When I told my Dad I was pregnant at the grand old age of 39, thus announcing the imminent arrival of his one and only grandchild, he said 'Oh, shit. Oh Christ, what a mess ...'

... he is such an arse!

Elphaba · 31/12/2007 18:49

WWB - your go on scrabble!

Elphaba · 31/12/2007 18:49

Oops - honestly, typed more than that!

Bizarre ILs are a must - doesn't everyone have them?! Sod em!

pricklybells · 31/12/2007 18:50

Good God I thought I was the only one with evil PIL's but they're obviously a common, widespread problem!!

When we told PIL that we were engaged FIL said a half hearted congratulations and they both carried on watching Coronation Street!!

TLSM · 31/12/2007 18:53

When we told my MIL that this one is a boy she said "oh well never mind" so your not alone!

pricklybells · 31/12/2007 18:57

You would have thought that these PIL's would be happy to have a grandchild, boy or girl as long as it's healthy and its parents are happy.

2008ISCOMING · 31/12/2007 18:57

When we told my in laws, I was pregnant for the 1rst time :

FIL : Oh that's clever....

Second time :

FIL : But...you were supposed to wait for another year ??

Idiot..

makingnosense · 31/12/2007 22:26

My IL's are bogging off on a six week holiday the week before my baby is due. They booked it after we had given them the due date, so really no excuse for that. To be perfectly honest though, I am quite relieved. Won't have to put up with constant visits from them at all hours without thought and consideration to us! Plus my MIL must have the loudest voice in the world. My poor LO has got to be gradually introduced to her I think so he doesn't get too scared! Lol
