Is anyone else jealous of their Mum?

My Mum is beautiful, confident, funny and kind. I am plain looking, shy, grumpy and kinda stupid… I am a single mum with a newborn and living at hers. My baby always smiles when he sees her and she’s so helpful and hands on that I think my baby feels safer with her. I know I am lucky to have her in my life but I am so overwhelmingly jealous of everything about her. Does anyone have advice on how to appreciate wonderful people instead of being jealous of them?

Think of them as role models, or some aspect you aspire to? Like seeing the perfectly-formed gym bunny who hits the gym daily. I'm never going to look like that because I don't go to the gym every day - but I admire the gym bunny for her commitment.

Are you ok OP? Could you have a chat with your health visitor? Single Mum with newborn living at your Mum's sounds like a whole heap of backstory.

You are unlikely to be feeling at your best at the moment and you need to be mindful that post natal depression and exhaustion can lead you into thought patterns you wouldn't otherwise entertain.

Is there someone who isn't your Mum you could talk your feelings through with? I know it's hard to appreciate what you've achieved when you're in the newborn stage, but you're doing great.

If your baby is less than six months old he or she don’t yet know that you are a separate person. You are their whole world, their dependable foundation, not a novelty to be smiled at. Your baby loves you more than anyone.
