Do you think this is inappropriate?

Recently a man I vaguely know (but not at all well) saw me walking home. He came up to me for a chat. We exchanged small talk and I said "Well I'd better be going" at which point he hugged me very hard and kissed me on the cheek. I felt that this was odd and inappropriate. He is married too. Am I being over sensitive?

How would I know if he had a hard on??

No
Probably overcome by Yuletide joy.
I have a friend who always kisses me full on on the lips with big hug. I think (hope) he is just a tactile kinda guy.)

choosyfloosy · 20/12/2007 16:28

Nope, YANBU. Avoid, IMO. He may be just having a rough time in his marriage and feel very lonely, so I don't like saying avoid, but he needs to sort that out himself unfortunately.

Bocohohoho · 20/12/2007 16:29

It's hard to tell really. Did you feel uncomfortable? Did he do it in a creepy letch way, or just an overly affectionate nice person way?

moondog · 20/12/2007 16:29

Did you feel it press against your thingh Electra (always a sign that trouble afoot, or rather acock...)

And when he kissed you on the cheek did he slip his tongue into your ear?

karen999 · 20/12/2007 16:30

Oh, some people are just like this. I would not read too much into it. Maybe he had been out for a few Xmas drinks and was feeling festive. Don't know how anyone could equate giving someone a hug and a kiss and thinking that it means they are having a bad time in their marriage!!!

electra · 20/12/2007 16:30

I think it's fine when a friend does it but I barely know him iyswim. It was not a quick friendly hug either.

but why would a hug and a kiss (on the cheak not a snog) be inappropriate?

harmless imho. as long as he doesnt put his hand up your skirt its probably innocent!

SelfishMrsClaus · 20/12/2007 16:35

Was it your bum cheek? If not, then what's the problem?

electra · 20/12/2007 16:38

Ok maybe I'm just being silly. He did seem nice and everything. It's just it felt a bit intense and before then I had not really even had a conversation with him and he also made some comment about how I look But agree some people are more tactile than others.

OP posts:
WingsofanAngel · 20/12/2007 16:41

Your surprised he doesn't do it when his wife isn't there.
What did he say about how you looked ?

SquonkaClaus · 20/12/2007 16:43

dp does this all the time.

He is always very careful to make sure that he hugs people equally whether I'm there or not.

Have tried to tell him that some people find it uncomfortable, but he thinks that it just shows that he feels affection for them and is showing it.

You wouldn't think he was from a tough Manchester council estate

Smug · 20/12/2007 16:45

Is it wrong that I am sniggering wildly at this thread?

"did he have a hard on?"..........

......."hard to tell really. Did you feel uncomfortable"

If you felt it inappropriate, then it was.

moondog · 20/12/2007 16:46

There is nothing more worrying than a stiffy on your thigh (unless it is belonging to someone you like).

nailpolish · 20/12/2007 16:48

ive just had a flashback to being 15 and having a hand up my skirt

ah those were the days
