MIL and gift exchange

What do you get MIL when you really don't care to but don't want to turn up with nothing. Budget £10 or £20

I made the effort last year, her favourite chocolates and lush smellies. I don't think she had gotten me anything and last minute popped little bottles of lotions in a gift bag. More than likely from a hotel/regift. I accepted graciously at the table but was a little embarrassed.

Now, she's asking OH what to get me. I've just left that to him to suggest because anything would top last years.

Can't be alcohol because she likes expensive stuff. She doesn't have a bath anymore.

Any help? I just find the whole exchange an awkward situation

Go to Aldi and get their equivalent of whatever alcohol she likes. You made the big effort last year, go for the cheap version this year. She'll have to suck it up like you did

Just give her back the smelliest she gave you ;)

Honestly - whatever you can chuck in the trolley at Tesco. Don't give it headspace Xmas Smile

Get her a posh shower gell from l’occataine - shea oil for winter, or something like that.

A houseplant

Santahatesbraisedcabbage · 18/12/2021 18:43

Isn't there a plant called a mother in law's tongue??

Idontgiveagriffindamn · 18/12/2021 18:56

Nothing I’d leave it up to my OH to buy for her

Bargoed · 18/12/2021 19:40

Some Yardleys lavender stuff :)

I would leave it to your DH to buy her a gift. Or is it expected that he gives her a gift and you give her a separate one?

Agree with above, give a joint present.
