Why do you think it's acceptable to write a name with a small letter these days?

Hello All,

I've just texted my manager on Teams App about my working hours after Christmas and he typed my name and another manager's name with a small letter :) answering my message.

He is 28. Is it how young people communicate these days in text messages?

Thank you.

Normal spelling and grammar rules seem not to apply in more informal messaging mediums such as text and WhatsApp. I wouldn't take it personally.

521Jeanie · 08/12/2021 09:13

It's a text message, typed on a tiny phone!!

Didimum · 08/12/2021 09:13

I wouldn’t put that much thought into it. Methods and style of communication evolves over time and always has done. Unless his communication leads to obscurity and misunderstanding then I don’t see the issue.

You should have posted in Pedants Corner. Your people are over there.

Iggly · 08/12/2021 09:14

It’s because he has demoted you to lower case. You are not worthy

DontBeCatty · 08/12/2021 09:14

It's ok on a text message/whattsapp or whatever. I think so anyway.

Is he polite and respectful normally?

ticktockriojaoclock · 08/12/2021 09:15

Maybe he's annoyed your on mumsnet instead of working and being passive aggressive?
Don't let it wind you up!

AdamRyan · 08/12/2021 09:17

Yes. Capitals are for old people according to my kids. They've all changed their autocorrect to lower case after full stops. Grin

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 08/12/2021 09:17

Maybe his shift button has something unpleasant and sticky on it?

Strugglingtodomybest · 08/12/2021 09:22

AdamRyan I've heard that young people view full stops as passive aggressive, I'm surprised your kids still use them Wink

AdamRyan · 08/12/2021 09:28
Grin Thanks for the tip! I wind them up by being "old" so full stops all the way....
Strugglingtodomybest · 08/12/2021 13:14

Ha ha! Yes, go for it. See also: use of smiling face emojis and replying with "ok"!

Are you bell hooks?

girlmom21 · 08/12/2021 16:46

Certain apps don't automatically give capital letters so he's probably just typing with no autocorrect. It's not really an issue.

Lana07 · 08/12/2021 16:51

It's ignorance.

You don't need to capitalise 'all' there.
BigFatLiar · 08/12/2021 16:53

Same reason people don't use grammar or punctuation and do use emoji's and text speak. Just lazy. Language evolves, all those rules we learned at school get consigned to the history books (for as long as they last).

Lana07 · 08/12/2021 16:56

and I've reported you.
