Coping with loss at Christmas

How do you cope with Christmas when you are also losing someone? My dad is near end of life and somehow I also have to sort Christmas for my children. How do you get through that?

It's hard
My mum died just after Christmas. She was on end of life care on Christmas day. I was staying at the care home with her. Dd2 was 2 I went home on Christmas Eve and went back Christmas day. DH took Dd2 to his parent's house. I was lucky she was young enough to not understand Christmas. My mum died on Hogmanay actually it was 12.05 so new years day really. All of her 6 children were there.

What age are your kids?
Do you have family that can share the visits at Christmas?

I have 3 ages 14 12 and 4. My older 2 know what's happening. My youngest is excited for Christmas. It's all come as a shock. My dad was admitted to hospital in October because we were struggling with him at home. He has dementia and kept falling over. But also is transfusion dependent. While in hospital he pulled his picc line out and it was decided then by the Dr's and hematology to stop transfusions there for basically bringing his life to an end. He's still talking but the last few visits has no energy to open his eyes. I have a brother too. He's finding it difficult

@RedFlagsAllOver feel for you. It’s so hard. My mum was on end of life care Xmas 2018,died 25th Jan 2019. She was in Scotland as was my sister, I was in England so was going up and down the M6 whilst trying to make things normalish for my DD who was 10 at the time. My heart goes out to you all x

@RedFlagsAllOver
Does your brother live near you?

Have you got presents in for the kids.

RedFlagsAllOver · 28/11/2021 23:22

My brother is near yes, he's got 2 days off so I've asked him if he can see dad tomorrow. I have been getting gifts for the boys. I put my tree up the other week because I obviously want to keep things as normal as I can for them.
