My kids asked me if Santa was real

Last night one of my 8 year old twins lost a tooth, and she and her sister were laughing about the tooth fairy coming, one of them asked me if the tooth fairy was even real, the way she said it I felt like I couldn't lie, so I said no it's just me that takes the tooth and leaves you money. They both took this really well, laughing and saying they knew it!! But then one said, 'wait does that mean Santa isn't real'? I was not expecting it and felt like I couldn't lie about it now having told them the tooth fairy isn't real. So I had to say that no he isn't real either. Oh my gosh, they were both devastated! And still were before school this morning. I feel awful, I have totally wrecked Christmas for them, and now I don't know how to make it magical for them. What can I do to make it magical??
