Could my ex be stalking me on Ebay?

I'm divorced, and decided to have a clear out and sell a load of stuff on ebay.

It's mostly stuff we accumulated over the years, but includes some of exH's gym equipment, exH's clothes that he left behind, and a few of DC's toys and books that they no longer want. I sold a load about 6 months ago, then had a break and this weekend I listed a load more. DCs were aware some of their toys had been sold, and we planned to share the proceeds in due course.

DCs have been with their Dad this weekend, and this evening one of them asked me out of the blue "How much money have you made from selling our toys on ebay, and when are we getting the money?". It was really odd, because they'd forgotten I'd sold the stuff and it's a strange coincidence that they've asked on the very same weekend that I've re started selling.

Is it possible that exH can see my ebay activity and he knew I'd been selling 'his' old stuff, and has put the kids up to asking me? He doesn't know my ebay username, but I guess he would recognise his old stuff on there if he happened across it.

Is there a way of following someone on ebay - could he be watching me?

You can favourite a seller I think. So it updates you when they post new stuff. I don't know if that's the same for personal accounts.

I've had a look on my ebay and it says I have 1 Follower - but there's no way of seeing who it is.

No.. but could be him. Or could be someone who genuinely likes what you are selling so is keen to watch tricky one.

floofycroissant · 11/10/2021 10:59

I believe you can search for sellers by their email address, so if you use one that he's aware of then yes he's likely the one following you.

pinkyredrose · 11/10/2021 11:03

You can 'save' your favourite sellers but if he's seen his stuff for sale he'll know your ebay name and he'll be able to look at your feedback to see what you've already sold and how much for.

Did you ask the DC not to tell him?

ZeroFuchsGiven · 11/10/2021 11:04

Why is it a strange coincidence they asked? I think it makes more sense they asked this weekend, They see you listing new stuff and wondered when they were getting the money from the last lot of stuff you sold of theirs.

RedMarauder · 11/10/2021 11:11

Most things in life have a very simple explanation and it is unlikely he is stalking you.

myheartskippedabeat · 11/10/2021 11:13

To be fair if he wanted the stuff he should have taken it all when he left your just clearing out and your selling it so profits are yours not his id say!

Just create a new account with a different name. Problem solved in 10mins.

Then would have no seller history so people will be less likely to buy from her.

Is there a reason why you haven’t given them the money already? Mine would have asked me by now! I sold some sets of playmobil and transformers a few years back and made over £200. I worked out a fair division between the two DC based roughly on which of them had been gifted which items/how much of each set, and put the money in their bank accounts - all done in a matter of days after I got the money from the buyers.

bmachine · 11/10/2021 23:57

Has he got your email account password by any chance? or any tablets with ebay app downloaded with your account signed in ?

SecretKeeper1 · 12/10/2021 00:05

All he has to do is search for toys (or whatever else he thinks you’ve sold), then use the “distance from” option inputting your postcode, then order by nearest first. Easy to do.

pinkyredrose · 12/10/2021 18:44

OP is could you find out what his ebay name is? If so then you could block him.

PeoplePleaserBe · 12/10/2021 21:59

He can very easily find the exact location on the map on ebay, there is a way of doing it on the app and desktop site, it takes you to the centre of the very postcode. Takes a bit of explaining to know the precise way of doing it but it is achievable.

You can’t stop him from following you unless you change your ebay ID and location. You can only block him from bidding.
