What do you talk about?

With your spouse/partner/ significant other?

H and I are going through a really difficult time and I'm over analysing pretty much everything.
It's just occurred to me I don't know what we actually talk about. We work in the same field but very different jobs so ask how each other's days were and general chit chat mainly about work and people we both know but conversations feel forced as if we're almost strangers exchanging pleasantries. We rarely get time together (I've seen him for around 8 hours since last Wednesday) and it all feels very stilted and awkward.

Our day..but different jobs so bit more variety
The kids..grown up now but there is always something happening..Good and bad
Our friends if we have met up separately so chatting about their families and plans
Our own families as we often meet separately and come back with stories
The news/ politics/ films/ radio pieces we hear/
The garden/ house
Our plans/ dreams/ crazy notions/ thoughts/ random opinions
Holidays/ sports/ neighbours/ local news/ food/ plans and outings
That's it l think!!!

Our day
Friends
Family
General things we’ve been up to (hobbies etc)
Things that are in the news
Our kids
Our future (plans etc)
Jobs that we are doing/need to do in the house

Just general stuff!

What did you used to talk about before getting into this rut?

Together for nearly 30 years and we talk about everything, all the time: our adult kids, the house, the cats, food, politics, religion, silly jokes, our families and friends, each other.

@TheGrumpyGoat Embarrassingly don't really know, I can't think how things used to be. We've always worked in the roles we're in with very slight variations. No kids or pets to discuss.

I think we need to maybe do more stuff together away from the house. Maybe I need more hobbies although that might make even less time for us as a couple.

I didn't think relationships were this hard!
