A few weeks ago we had a big party, I had hair and make up done and felt pretty good in the first time in forever. When my partner of 4 years saw me .. glanced up and said nothing then when pushed he finally said ‘you look great’ I know pathetic and far bigger problems in the world but he will enthuse over my work but when it is ‘me’ I get nothing and my esteem is quite low. Please tell me I am being daft and move on.. TIA 😏

What's the rest of your relationship like?

Do you feel loved and valued?

Does he normally comment on people's looks?

I have a dh who is non-complementary about how I look when dressed up. He always says he thinks I always look amazing and sexy so saying it because of clothes and makeup seems 'off'.

I'm not having that, I want complements when I've made an effort: that's it worth the time and I look better than when I sitting around in my pjs with greasy hair.

We now have a 'rule'. If I'm wearing lipstick, he needs to complement something specific to show he's noticed. No "you look lovely". It's got to show he's actually paid attention. "That blue dress really suits you."

Some people are horrified by the fact it's not spontaneous and nature, but those that is not in his nature. Whereas I'm flattered that he is willing to go against his nature to please me.
