Do you have fun with your husband?

Do you enjoy your husbands company and actually have fun together? We married for practical reasons after I fell pregnant with DS a year into our relationship, we’ve been married for 3 years and both early 30’s. He’s a good person but our relationship is so dull we hardly ever laugh and joke together and I’m starting to feel that I don’t enjoy his company (when he is actually at home that is as he works long hours / borderline workaholic). He works, watches sport, eats and sleeps so I feel like he never has the energy to put any effort into our relationship.

I love a good laugh and luckily have friends and family I can share that side with but it would be nice to occasionally have that with DH.

Definitely, I absolutely love being with him.

We've been together for ten years and married for four, have a 4 year old, a 19 month old and another baby due next month.

We have so much fun together, proper laughing-so-hard-you-can't-breathe moments. We don't go out together a lot because of how little our kids still are, but we spend a lot of time just us in the evening; watching TV/films, playing board games, chatting and cuddling, etc. We do our own separate thing in different parts of the house as well when the kids have gone to bed, but if we're doing that we always 'meet up' later.
We have a lot of family time and go on a lot of outings and trips which we all enjoy together - he's such a wonderful, funny and sweet dad. But even the everyday mundane things are so much more enjoyable because of him.
I just adore him, he's my best friend in the world.

Yes - one of the first things I noticed about dp is how he makes everyday things fun. He's incredibly quick witted and bright and we banter constantly.

He introduced pillow talk where he saves up an agenda of random topics or events from the day for discussion once we've gone to bed. Some are so mundane they're ridiculous and make me giggle.

He always asks about my day.

He is my all time favourite holiday buddy.

It depends. Some days we barely speak unless it’s about routine stuff like chores, cooking, cleaning etc. We’re usually wiped out between his work and us looking after a young child as well as trying to keep the house stuff afloat.

Other times we make the effort to fit a movie night in at home.

Hardly ever do we go out as a couple though and do a ‘fun’ activity like bowling or cinema or a random walk.

We could definitely put more effort in.

I'm hilarious IRL but DH never laughs at my jokes. At dinnner he shovels food in like he's starving, in silence. He never comes to bed at the same times as me. I spend my evenings in a different room because his music taste is SHITE and he can't chat.

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 29/08/2021 21:19

Yes we do. We've been together 19 years and getting married in a few weeks. Obviously it's not all laughs but we usually laugh together about something each day, either each other (like something daft we've done or said), the cat's antics or DD's or something else. We have our own things too but we do make time for each other.

annacondom · 29/08/2021 21:20

Not really, if I'm honest. I can make him laugh but his sense of humour is a lot different from mine, so I depend on my friends for most of my laughs. We have different interests, but see the world the same way and agree on most things. We have been together a long time and can basically mind-read each other. I will know what he thinks about something/wants without having to ask him. So he feels like an extension of me. We enjoy each others' company, but fun? Rarely.

QueenHofScotland · 29/08/2021 21:24

Yes, I love DH’s company. We laugh a lot together and always have. We’ve been together since we were teenagers - now in our late 30’s/early 40’s.

severelysound · 29/08/2021 21:25

Yes. I could have fun with him sitting in an empty room. We do a lot separately because we don't have much in common, but all the boring stuff (driving, shopping, housework etc) that's done together is always fun.

I think that's why I fell for him / realised he was 'the one'.

Oblomov21 · 29/08/2021 21:33

God yes. Been married 20 years. He drives me up the wall and I often think I'd like to live in a cabin in the middle of nowhere, without dc, every other week.
Then I realise is probably miss Dh. Just a little bit.

daisyjgrey · 01/09/2021 12:22

@Franklyfrost

None of this is normal. He is arguably abusive towards you. You deserve to be treated better than this.

Flashblip · 01/09/2021 12:38

Nope, not fun just tension

Hrpuffnstuff1 · 01/09/2021 12:47

Yes me and Mrs. HR are best pals, we do nearly everything together.
We have a full diary of activities most of them involve either family or time together.
We have lots of sex as well.
