Tinder location

Started talking to someone on tinder who is showing as 13 miles away but says he is working away in Scotland which is hundreds of miles away. I thought location updated everytime you log in? Just seemed a little weird, not that he should have any reason to lie but just made me wonder?

Yes that was my understanding too, I didn't think you could even go onto the app unless your location is turned on, so it would automatically update.

I would just ask him. He may have it on some kind of snoozed setting where location isn't on 🤷‍♀️

I think there are some situations with Tinder Global where is says someone is 4km away but when you match their location changes to their real location, usually thousands of miles away.
Doesn’t explain your situation though. I would assume the guy is lying

rjacksmiss · 25/08/2021 13:06

Yeah it's location based. Unless he has his privacy setting on his phone as do not share location.

NewLifePending · 25/08/2021 13:08

Sounds like a fun to me

NewLifePending · 25/08/2021 13:08

Fib!

Starlight39 · 25/08/2021 13:14

I think if you pay for premium you can set your location as different from your actual location. Presumably for situations like going away with work - so he can still swipe and will be shown people from his home rather than Scotland. At least I know you used to be able to as someone I know lived abroad and did a bit of tinder-ing before she came home but with her location set to UK.

Bypassed21 · 25/08/2021 13:17

Agree with @Starlight39, if you pay for your Tinder membership you can set your location where you like.
I wouldn't assume this guy is lying - he probably pays the subscription.

Tommika · 25/08/2021 13:26

Basic tinder uses your current location, (or the location that your phone shows in location services) you can upgrade for more features which include varying locations, a list of who has already liked you rather than just the random next swipe etc

When I was on tinder I used an alternative app as an add on which gave the extra features as a one off purchase rather than as an ongoing subscription

He could of course be lieing, but it’s likely that he has an upgraded tinder / add on app set to home whilst he is away so that he gets matches that will be local to where he lives rather than where he has currently traveled to

SimoneSimone · 25/08/2021 16:14

its just someone you are talking to on Tinder.

wobblywinelover · 25/08/2021 17:48

I'd unmatch, why even bother with the stress of finding out. Seriously if we're having to look for red flags at this sort of stage it's not worth the grief. Actually my advice would be to just delete and get more cats but I know i'm being flippant! Tinder is pretty rubbish

Jumpinginwithbothfeet · 25/08/2021 18:40

Thanks everyone. Maybe that's what it is then. Not had a huge amount of luck with men on there so far so just seemed a bit strange. Will see how it goes

He may be using a location spoofing app on his phone, which makes your phone think you are in a different location to one you are actually in. I have used one in the past for a little privacy protection in some apps where I don't want my location to be broadcast.
