I’m a bit stressed as spilt from partner recently have found a rental but is £1000 per month have got it as nothing else around, but now I’m a single parent self employed earning about £900 a month tried doing the online calculators but doesn’t give much information, hopefully claiming through UC won’t know how much until I’m in! Can anyone in similar situation tell me how much roughly a month from what I can see is £400 housing benefit? I have 2 young children as well. It would be for a 3 bed.

It's hard to work out your UC entitlement. Your housing allowance will depend on the gender/ages of the children. Your bet bet is to join the Universal Credit essential group on Facebook, they have a near accurate calculator .

Goodluck

It may vary by area but housing with 2 kids was £450 when I claimed it

Do you need a 3 bed? 2 bed might be more affordable

Skyeheather · 23/08/2021 20:49

Are you allowed a three bed? My children are young and I'm only allowed a two bed. My housing allowance is £439.00 a month. Average private rent for a two bed in my area is £600.00 so I have to find the difference.

Ok great was hoping around the £400 mark, found a new calculation now is similar to £450, no would need a 3 bed as have a 10 yr old girl amd 1 yr old boy and he doesn’t sleep at night.

doesn't mean you need a 3 bed, the one year old could share with you for many more years yet, or you could share with DD, or you could sleep in the living room

I have got a rental luckily as literally nothing a around. Would UC not pay housing benefit for a 3 bed then?

Have a look on the site entitledto.co.uk ( I think it is. Sure if you Google it, it will come up) you can put all your specific details in and it will give you an idea of your UC amount. I think the housing element is based on gender. So as you have a boy / girl you may be eligible for housing amount for a 3 bed. The amount also varies by different area. I think the age criteria is to do with social housing allocation but I may well be wrong.
However you can have the 3 bed house if you like... UC may also only pay you 2 bed entitlement if you don't meet the 3 bed criteria.
