If a husband has an STI diagnosed by his GP would the GP contact the wife to let her know or would it be up to the husband to either tell the wife or give the GP consent to do so?

I’m not sure. Could you contact the GP surgery and ask? I know my ex husband cheated and had an appt with the STI clinic when I found the appointment card and rang they wouldn’t tell me the result as it was confidential. You could go get a test yourself if you are unsure ?

frozendaisy · 17/08/2021 13:29

I assume GP would not tell you
Only time it might be disclosed is in court if a husband knew he was HIV +ve and deliberately infected his wife but, again assuming, you would need a court order for this information.

Regardless of the state of a relationship the GP-patient relationship is confidential.

If a husband got an STI and didn't tell his wife (or visa versa) it's not really a commited marriage on so many levels is it.

Highly unlikely a GP would contact a spouse about anything without consent to do so

CorrBlimeyGG · 17/08/2021 13:36

A GP (or sexual health clinic) would only contact you with the patient's consent.

Appleofmyeye05 · 17/08/2021 13:39

I think if you go to a clinic they will ask you for the names and contact details of people you have slept with recently and the clinic will ring and say you may have been in contact with someone but will not give names.

Not sure how works at the GP though.

In the area I live in the GP encourages any sexual health tests to be done at a sexual health clinic.

No - its against the law

Hopingforabagofbuttons · 17/08/2021 14:17

No , they can’t and won’t contact the wife in this situation. Patient confidentiality

putthebinsout · 17/08/2021 14:20

Absolutely not. Unless he asked them too

Headphone · 17/08/2021 18:46

Thanks everyone. I didn't think they would.

doitwithlove · 17/08/2021 19:46

Or are you the other woman @Headphone

Heatherjayne1972 · 17/08/2021 21:39

You’re better off getting yourself tested- at least you would then know you were clear

Tbh this does sound like a relationship that’s not going anywhere
