Should I report a ex

My ex owns his own business as well as works full time in a well paid job. He uses the business funds to purchase expensive stuff for himself, designer clothes, trainers, TV's yet when it comes to paying child maintenance he refuses or does the books so he pays little as possible. He uses fuel receipts to claim on his tax returns but doesn't drive.

Should I report this

Also how long does it take for them to investigate?

I would. However do you have any proof? Has he written it somewhere? They won't tell him you've reported him.

Stressfreelife · 16/08/2021 15:22

Yes he has purchased all this through his business page on eBay also given that he doesn't drive/own a car the receipts in themselves would be false.

If you think he’s commuting tax fraud, then yes, report.

How long it will take will depend on how much of a priority HMRC think his case is for investigation, and whether any initial evidence against him seems sound.

But what exactly are you intending to report? There’s nothing illegal or fraudulent about using an eBay business account to purchase personal items - it’s just advised against because it makes things very difficult and confusing for accounting purposes. It’s also not illegal or fraudulent to use accounting treatments and tax breaks which minimise your taxation, provided you’re doing so within the confines of the law. Where is he getting fuel receipts if he doesn’t drive?

If he works full time in a well paid job then I don't understand how he's not paying child maintenance. It's very easy for the CSA to check PAYE employment.

Obviously the self employed work is more tricky. How do you know he claims for fuel on his tax return?

Stressfreelife · 16/08/2021 16:05

Fuel receipts are from his family members who drive.

Also in regards to ebay. Customers are buying the products and instead of him declaring it he's using it to purchase numerous personal items.

Oh yeah. I'd definitely report him. Men who try to wriggle out of paying child support are scum bags.

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 16/08/2021 16:06

I would.
I loathe people who actively try to avoid contributing fairly to the children they created.

Self employed men can make it look like they hardly earn anything. My friends dead beat dad husband earns loads and gets away with paying her £20 a week for 3 children.
Stressfreelife · 16/08/2021 16:09

He claimed he earned below 10k for last year thats what has been reported to hmrc yet works 40 hours a week. I have reported this as I don't understand how this is the case. He works for a friend so maybe he is helping him but that's a huge risk he's taking in regards to his business, if he is helping him. He will honestly do anything to avoid paying CM.. he has already had his banks accounts froze from them as he refused to pay when the application first went through.

Does he have a clever accountant or is he just not declaring. Big difference

Stressfreelife · 16/08/2021 17:26

Not declaring it

OP posts:
Anon778833 · 16/08/2021 18:52

Well if he's not declaring it so that he can short change his children that he created then he deserves everything he's got coming to him.

Stressfreelife · 16/08/2021 18:59

His issue is paying it to me he doesn't see it as paying his children but supporting my "lifestyle" as he says. Its 20 a week for 2 children.
