Hi all, new here.. was this a shitty comment Or am I being too sensitive and just let it go?
Bought a new jumperoo for my little boy who is 6 months - MIL came over and she saw him in it, and made this comment "aw Henry are you gonna be dumped in that all day now?"

Throw away comment I don't know ? Seemed a bit rude to me but people mean things in different ways I guess ?

@Dntevenknowit

MIL dig unfortunately
Yep.
DizzyLollipop82 · 02/08/2021 15:09

What would have been a good reply I just didn't say anything I was a bit taken back !

‘Dumped’ has significance. But hard to know if it’s a dig or MIL’s humour. I know people who would say that as a joke and I’d reply something like ‘yes we won’t need a childminder we’ll just leave him there for a few hours, he’ll be fine”

PyjamaFan · 02/08/2021 15:12

Nasty comment.

ldnirish · 02/08/2021 15:12

Really shitty comment, sorry.
Classic MIL dig to try and start an argument!
FWIW, my son was at his happiest in his jumperoo, great purchase on your part x

HollowTalk · 02/08/2021 15:14

Just a nasty remark.

Yes! I can get pissed all day while he's in there!

Really, just smile and ignore silly comments. She may, as a pp said, have been joking.

TheFoundations · 02/08/2021 15:39

Your two options aren't mutually exclusive. Sometimes a thing can be shitty and you should still let it go.

Silence is often the best answer. Passive aggressive people do it for a response. If you act like you didn't notice, it takes their power away.

Silence is dignity.

Aquamarine1029 · 02/08/2021 15:42

That was a deliberate dig. She knew exactly what she was saying.

minniemouseshouses · 02/08/2021 15:54

Rude. But perhaps a joke? Difficult to tell as I don’t know the woman.

billy1966 · 02/08/2021 17:56

Nasty, rude, and deeply offensive.

Stop being so available or polite.

She doesn't deserve it.

FelicityPike · 02/08/2021 17:58

Aww the ring of neglect (as we called it when our dd was little).
That was a definite bitchy dig from MIL. Smile and ignore.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 02/08/2021 18:06

Yep its a dig. I'd have replied 'yeah its great, I'm going down the pub at lunchtime and meeting the girls for a few drinks, he'll be fine here'

Heatherjayne1972 · 02/08/2021 18:36

Depends on your relationship with mil
Could be a joke. Could be a nasty comment

Had it been my exmil Id have thought it was just nasty

36degrees · 02/08/2021 20:13

My MIL was full of digs like that. A good test is would she say it in front of your DH? Mine wouldn't, but she was caught out by forgetting about the baby monitor once. When DH heard a typical barbed comment from downstairs he went through her, any time I flagged comments with him, he thought I was 'reading too much into it', 'picking her up wrong' etc. but once he heard it for himself he got fully onside with me.

Jesskir89 · 02/08/2021 23:54

A bitchy dig. Ds will love the jumperoo and yes they also come in handy when you need to put tea on etc... at least ges safe in there while you do :)

Pegasusmail · 02/08/2021 23:57

Yeah my gut feeling would be that it's s nasty comment.
Buy only you know her.. If she's a jokey person she might big mean anything by it.
