Any film or tv recommendations that show strong woman, coming out of the break up even better?

Rewatched all the sex and the city series after my breakup, really uplifting. Also Bridget Jones. I was single in my early thirties

MintyCedric · 25/07/2021 13:47

Not particularly about women breaking up and being stronger for it, but Sisters (Tina Fey and Amy Poehler) is rude, funny and sweet and my favourite feel good film if that's any help.

EvenMoreFuriousVexation · 25/07/2021 13:58

Anything with a strong female lead tbh. Which speaks volumes about how relationships beat women down.

Avatar is excellent for nature worshipping hippies like me

Grimsknee · 25/07/2021 14:17

Shirley Valentine
Thelma and Louise
The Good Wife
Good Girls
Fried Green Tomatoes

Dazedandconfused10 · 25/07/2021 14:18

Spinster - it's everything I wanted from a breakup film.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 25/07/2021 14:20

Thunder Force, good fun with strong women and no bullshit

Umberellatheweatha · 25/07/2021 14:23

Thibk I'd stick to action films and slapstick comedy if I were you op. Even if they display a strong woman coming out of a break up, guarantee the ending will still be some shite about them finding someone else.

Stick to Jackie chan and Bruce Willis for a bit lol.

EwwSprouts · 25/07/2021 14:25

First wives club
War of the Roses (love Kathleen Turner in all films)

ThePurplePalace · 25/07/2021 14:35

100% First Wives Club!

I also fall into a well of Grey’s Anatomy. Cathartic!

aSofaNearYou · 25/07/2021 15:02

An obvious one would be How To Be Single

katscamel · 25/07/2021 15:21

Diary of a mad black woman..on Netflix. I love Tyler Perry films.
The other Woman is also quite amusing at times.

CheerfulBunny · 25/07/2021 15:47

This is a bit out there and may not quite fit your criteria re: strong woman, but I saw 500 Days of Summer for the first time the other day and thought it was amazing. It's from the guy's POV but it really made me think (about a situation I have with an ex and being able to let go), has a great soundtrack and is bittersweet/funny in places.

CheerfulBunny · 25/07/2021 15:50

Oh and Working Girl secretly my favorite film is the ultimate strong woman film, sticking two fingers up at her bastard slimy Alec Baldwin ex.

Cheesecake53 · 25/07/2021 16:13

I really like Girl most likely.

Mateypotatey · 25/07/2021 16:23

I second 'how to be single, its amazing

Immunetypegoblin · 25/07/2021 16:24

💯 best break up film ..I speak from experience.

And post divorce...Gone Girl 😁

I go dark. It's more cathartic

Bagelsandbrie · 25/07/2021 17:01

He’s just not that into you (love the bit where Gigi says she basically won’t compromise who she is even if it means she gets hurt… it was a turning point for me coming out of a shit relationship. I was then single for ages with that in my head and then went on to meet dh - we’ve been together 12 years now)!

RobinWoodPrinceofLeaves · 25/07/2021 17:04

I like the Midsommer suggestion, if you like a bit extreme.

I was going to say Legally Blonde on Amazon Prime?

Freelikeabirdy · 25/07/2021 17:07

I looked for the good wife but couldn’t see it anywhere except pay per episode on Amazon prime

Midsommar looks good, think I may watch that tonight and treat myself to a Chinese. I’ve been catching up on Love Island but that’s just annoying me even more 🤣

Wild - Reese Witherspoon

Suzi888 · 25/07/2021 17:14

Californication- I loved it!

Lonelynow · 25/07/2021 17:39

Someone Great on Netflix. Watched it during my breakup and it made me feel a bit better. It's basically a women coming out of a long term relationship and how she deals with the breakup. Nice light hearted comedy rather than anything too deep. I second He's just not that into you too, one of my favourite movies.

Lonelynow · 25/07/2021 17:44

Oh and I highly recommend Why Women Kill. Best show I have watched in years from the writers of Desperate Housewives. I had never heard of it and it came up on my suggested boxsets on Virgin. I think it's free to watch anywhere though as it's on UKTV play.

MargotMoon · 25/07/2021 23:07

I second @MintyCedric - Sisters (on Netflix) is fucking hilarious
