Solicitor or not

Two years ago DH said he was done with our marriage (married over 25 years). The context was it was said during a slightly over-heated (on his part) conversation.
Next day he had changed his mind.
He then said the same thing again during similar context two months later. Then he changed his mind.
He has been fine ever since.
Except, I think he recently visited a solicitor (specialising in divorce).
Should I also go and speak to a solicitor just in case? I don't really want to do anything so secretive like that and also I can't really see the point because even if I am caught unawares, any financial settlement would be 50:50?

I think you're focusing on the wrong thing. Why pay for a service that you don't (yet) need?

The important question is what do you want to happen and why are you allowing yourself to be strung along by someone who keeps threatening to leave then changes his mind?

If you do indeed split them definitely get legal advice. Don't rely on 'oh everything will be 50/50'.

If you or him visit a solicitor for advice (free or paid) then the other cannot. So some people advise visiting lots to prevent your partner from using them

Get legal advice now. If he has he could be getting his ducks in a row and you will have no idea. I would arm yourself with as much information as possible.

@rosalindwi you mean they can’t see the same Solictor as that would create a conflict of interests

girlmom21 · 23/07/2021 20:36

What's your communication like? Could you just ask him if he's seen a solicitor? Would he be honest? Why do you think he has?
