I’m 26 I’ve been with my partner a year I have a few guy’s friends on Instagram some From when I was single every now and then I post a picture they comment occasionally ask me how I am etc. Normally we just make small talk one of them works with a family member of mine and was recently near my work so messaged me asking if we where open as he wanted to get something food related. I was on my lunch and said I would pop out and say hello just made small talk spoke about family member and some friends we have in common. I was speaking to a close girl friend of mine and she asked how my day was. I mentioned I saw jack not really name she then said you still speak to him? I said I do occasionally we make small talk she said does your partner mind I said yeah why not I speak to a lot of guy friends occasionally. She really then went on about how she wouldn’t be speaking to other guys while in a relationship and that it was disrespectful and how would I like it if he was talking to girls. I said he had girls that are friends from work and child hood that he occasionally speaks to. It got me thinking that maybe I’m wrong and what I’m doing counts as cheating as my friend put it

Depends what you have agreed with your partner. Also depends if you ever conceal the fact you’ve spoken to these boys from him.

Your friend is being ridiculous. Of course you can, and should, have other friends while being in a committed relationship. The sex of those friends is irrelevant, really.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 28/06/2021 20:07

Your friend is wrong. Talking as you have been to these people is not cheating behaviour.

Eh what now? She can talk to who she pleases. It’s not remotely cheating and anyone who has an agreement they can’t even converse with an ex needs to get the fuck out the relationship

Your friend is weird. Does she fancy Jack by any chance? I’d assume she is jealous.

Does it?? Is it reasonable for a partner to ask you not to chat to anyone of the opposite sex? OP if they are just mates then of COURSE you've done nothing wrong and your friend is a weird jealous weirdo
BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 28/06/2021 20:09

Having friends of the opposite sex isn’t cheating but maintaining the boundaries (especially if you have a history) and being open with your partner, is important.

If it's purely friendship with these blokes, then she's a loon.
