Do I need counselling after breakup or just give it time?

So I posted before about the sudden breakup of my relationship 9 weeks ago. I thought I'd be feeling better by now but I'm actually feeling so low in myself and crying a lot. It's not that I want him back, but I'm ruminating and keep picturing him with someone else.

I know this will pass but I'm feeling so awful. It was a five year relationship Has anyone had counselling and found it helped them?

I’m really sorry. What happened? I don’t remember your thread. But if it was unexpected you’re bound to still be upset. Counselling certainly helped me over my last breakup, but it still needed lots of time too. You will get there, believe me, be nice to yourself in the meantime.

Its still early days and its horrible i know. Its a kind of grief. Try some self help books. Paul Mckenna does one about mending a broken heart through channeling thoughts...

I did get counselling when exh dumped me, it was life coaching but it helped me enormously.

Take it a day at a time, know one day you’ll feel ok the next terrible. But above all, be kind to yourself. It will pass.

Hi Op my breakup happened 8 weeks ago, also very unexpected, also almost 5 yrs relationship. I went to therapist as I don't have no-one to talk to. It helped me a lot, just to drop it off my chest. I don't deal well when things are illogical and even though I don't have answers I gave them myself. Im not over it but my acceptance is increasing and I feel calm most of days. Try to think what bothers you the most -It can be so many different things, maybe lack of his contact after, why it happened, way it happened, fear of future, anxiety about not finding love. If you want to pm Im happy to hear you out, there was also a thread here about recent break-ups and many ladies were sharing they stories, sometimes it helps to know people are going through similar stuff, its all completly normal and speaks about your ability to love Thanks
