Had one-night-stand with my niece’s new husband. Should I confess?

Yes, I know ... this sounds like a particular bad episode of the Jeremy Kyle show, but don’t judge before you finished reading.

I’m a 42 year old widow, who moved back to the UK in 2019 after living abroad with my late husband for almost 15 years. Two days after I arrived back, I attended the wedding of my sister’s eldest daughter. The perfect opportunity to see my family again, I thought.

Because I live in London and the wedding was in Yorkshire, I decided to drive up the day before and take a room at a local hotel. After diner I was reading a book by the fire when a young man asked if he could sit in the chair opposite. He was in his mid 20’s and really REALLY attractive. There was eye contact, his smile made me blush, he offered me a drink and we ended up in my room having the most incredible sex. When I woke up the next morning, he was gone. Although I never had a one-night-stand before, I somehow had expected it and was okay with it.

But when I arrived at the church later that morning, my sister came over and said ‘let me introduce you to groom’ and called out his name. A man in a morning suit turned around and I was looking at the same man who had been in my bed just a couple of hours earlier. It was somewhat awkward, as you can imagine.

At the time I didn’t say anything, I didn’t want to ruin my niece’s big day, but now I’m not sure it was the right thing to do. What do you think?

I think you need a LOT more emotion where you say 'It was somewhat awkward'.

That's not really cutting it.

Some of the replies in this thread are absolutely hilarious, comedy gold.

nowlook · 11/04/2021 09:13

@hauntedvagina

What's next? You're pregnant!! Paternity test please.^* IT’S TWINS!*^

But only one of them is his!!

Grin

Some really mean posters on this thread Sad. OP, let's look at how this could develop:

(a) You don't tell anyone and neither does he. Whole story end after chapter 1, so it's a no from me;
(b) You don't tell anyone and try to keep away from each other, but it's impossible. Eventually, you're seen by the local village gossip. So she has to die. (possible? consider moving location to Midsomer or an exotic French territory, depending on whether you're a BBC or ITV sort of girl).
(c) You tell everyone and are murdered. It appears to the local plod that your niece must be responsible. However, a holidaying detective works out that it was actually one of the members of staff at the hotel who gave your niece up for adoption 30 years ago.

Hope this helps.

Bet the deletion message won't be half as amusing

StephenBelafonte · 11/04/2021 09:14

What book were you reading?

What did your young husband die of? Was it a long lingering cancer death that you nursed him through?

Shooshybobs · 11/04/2021 09:14

We've all been there, op.
Being seduced by a handsome 20 something while we were at our most vulnerable .
Similar happened to me with my daughters husband. I went up to the hospital to visit her after she had her first baby and my son in law looked so handsome in his scrubs. We both reached for a bed pan at the same time and as our hands touched it was electric. I was feeling particularly vulnerable about being a granny as I look so good for my age it just didn't feel right. We couldn't resist the temptation any longer, we went into the post natal showers and soaped up each others backs.
No one knows till this day but sometimes he gives me a little wink when i go round to visit. It still gets my heart racing!!

Etsylicious · 11/04/2021 09:15

So funny 😁

Rosehip10 · 11/04/2021 09:15

Is your niece upper middle class?

MerryGoRoundBrain · 11/04/2021 09:16

Don’t mind me, just here for the comments.

OP we desperately need more detail. I’m also hoping for a follow up at any future family functions. You’ll feel his eyes burning through your clothes, every time you turn around your eyes will meet with his hungry gaze.

I like the possibility of pregnancy too. We could chuck in some deadly illness into this epic story and your child will be the blood/whatever donor because they will be a sibling of your niece’s poorly child.

I’m so excited. I hope the Kindle version is free Grin

@category12

Did the rest of his mates go off in a Land rover to Tom's estate?

diddl · 11/04/2021 09:18

I think it's all fine Op-he wasn't actually married at the time.

SubCoral · 11/04/2021 09:18

I want to read the next chapter!!

ChinnnyRekon · 11/04/2021 09:18

Sign me up for the next episode 👍

FlatEarthling · 11/04/2021 09:19

What book were you reading OP?

Lauren15 · 11/04/2021 09:19

@OolieMacdoolie

Did ye aye
😂
SubCoral · 11/04/2021 09:19

P.s. what’s done is done, you didn’t break anyone’s vows or promises. Keep quiet. Act as if nothing happened. You don’t remember

PhilCornwall1 · 11/04/2021 09:19

What's that I can smell? Ah I know, bullshit.

whenindoubtBake · 11/04/2021 09:21

This sounds like so many movies I've seen before

whatapileofpoo · 11/04/2021 09:21

I know women who this sort of thing happens to all the time! A lot of men love older women and a lot of older women look hot!

But I have seen the MNHQ post so I guess the OP was on an imaginary frolick this time. What a shame!

PeterPomegranate · 11/04/2021 09:21

@FuckingFabulous

This reminds me of the time when I had sex with a ginger haired man, and all of a sudden I could smell ginger really strongly and he started crumbling underneath me because it was midnight and he'd turned back into biscuits
Ha ha! Love this.
supercee · 11/04/2021 09:21

Delighted this is still going.

LubaLuca · 11/04/2021 09:21

I’m so excited. I hope the Kindle version is free

I think that's a given. I can picture the cover artwork.

Thefaceofboe · 11/04/2021 09:22

As I was reading this I was thinking there’s no way this happened... so glad the comments agree Grin

ErinMcCafferty · 11/04/2021 09:22

Oh, we've all done it. Especially the night of a family wedding where neither you, or the groom make any arrangements to see anyone despite everyone you know being in the same area.
