On Hinge, I’ve seen people put their location as ‘CP’ eg Sutton Coldfield CP. Scam?

I have made half a profile so it isn’t ‘live’ yet BUT I can see some profiles, it seems to cycle thorough about 20 of them, and quite a few have CP at the end. What does this mean? I’ve googled and can’t make any sense out of it so am I right in assuming they are fake profiles made by foreigners who don’t understand that we in the UK don’t use CP after the name of a town?

Why would it be “foreigners”?? I don’t know what CP means but I can’t understand why you’ve jumped to that assumption when you don’t know either Confused

BlueDaysTillChristmas · 05/04/2021 01:36

Well I mean foreigners as in scammers who don’t live in the UK. I was thinking maybe it’s used in the US or something? I’ve never heard of it before this half access to Hinge that I have now. I have been on PoF in the past where there were so many scammers so I just assumed that I was looking at scammers profiles again. Out of the 20ish that it shows me I would say 8 of them have ‘town name CP’ as location.

It means civil parish

BlueDaysTillChristmas · 05/04/2021 01:48

Oh ok, thanks. Do people use it though? I’ve never seen it used before now for an address.

Lol

In England, a civil parish is a type of administrative parish used for local government. It is a territorial designation which is the lowest tier of local government below districts and counties, or their combined form, the unitary authority.

Well that's great but who won earth says it?

Horological · 13/05/2022 08:15

I would like to know the answer to this too. Does it really mean civil parish? I've never seen this before.
Why are people being obtuse or sarcastic, it's a reasonable question.

SoupDragon · 13/05/2022 08:18

I have never seen CP in a location or the phrase "civil parish" used outside of local government news items or wiki.

BlueDaysTillChristmas · 13/05/2022 08:20

I don’t know why I got sarcastic answers either @Horological

I’d googled, couldn’t find the answer so came on here.

OP do you mean you thinked theyve picked out the location at random fron Wikipedia or Google Maps or something? So for example they might put 'London Borough of Lambeth' which noone would say to describe where they live, instead of say 'Brixton', because they are plucking fake locations from the internet , and are really scammers in the Phillipines or somewhere ?

JulesRimetStillGleaming · 13/05/2022 08:21

Is it not done by the app? I play Pikmin and most of my Pikmin have CP at the end of the place that they were found. The app's geolocation feature does it automatically.

RJnomore1 · 13/05/2022 08:21

when I read this I wondered if they were visiting centre parks 😂 I see I’m wrong

ValerieDoonican · 13/05/2022 08:22

I don't know anything about this, but I like a bit of sleuthing op!

ValerieDoonican · 13/05/2022 08:23

Looks like Jules knows a bit more than me...

JulesRimetStillGleaming · 13/05/2022 08:27

Hopefully this isn't too outing.... Wink

It's just the software that auto adds the location.

My experiences of Burford would confirm...

As above CP is civil parish, and some automatic geolocation things do add it. MyFitnessPal does as well, from memory

Emmelina · 13/05/2022 10:19

Does it stand for “Cocklodging Professional”? ;)

22fgjiyt · 13/05/2022 10:33

It's done automatically by Hinge. You can't input the name of your location, you have to pin it on the map.

When I was on Hinge the area I'm in came up with ward at the end.

whyareallthegoodonesgone · 13/05/2022 13:38

It’s automatically added- I only found out when asking Siri for the daily weather update- cp is included

BonnyandPoppy · 13/05/2022 13:50

I volunteer for fresh start for hens and for us it means collection point 🐓🐓Probably doesn’t help you though 😂

CP after a place stands for Civil Parish, a
type of administrative unit in England. In this context, "Fishburn CP" would mean Fishburn, part of the civil parish.
