This is for those of you who have really helped me the past few months with my moving away from mom situation. My dh and I are planning to move the end of Oct for that new job offer. I have not told my mom yet. Please pray for me because I know she will not react in a good way. I am quite nervous on what to say but I know I have no choice at this point. Thanks.

Hi Guys,

Well we finally got our internet on. Its been a real emotional week for my family and I. I have been feeling a little depressed off and on but am finally starting to feel better.

I never did talk to my mom before I left for VA. She was quite emotional when she had last seen and talked to my kids. I didnt think saying bye would be a good thing at that time. She really didnt want to talk with me anyway. I just got my long distance hooked up. So my kids will be able to call their grandmother. They did call once at someone elses house when we first got here. Dont know if shell want to talk yet but I am going to leave it up to her when she talks to my children. I do like it here in Va. I just miss my family so much. I hope I can adjust. Ive been crying a lot at night. My dh said to just give it time. Everything is so new and theres been so many changes. Right now its hard to see me feeling different in time but I guess I will eventually. Like I have in every other place I lived. I just havent been away from my parents and brother before.

Well I just thought I would update you all. I'll type more later. I have so many things to do its so hard to focus on mumsnet right now. Couldnt wait to get on though. I kicked my dh off the minute it was hooked up.

Hang in there - of course it's going to feel a bit strange for a while. Thinking of you and yours.

jodee · 18/10/2002 16:52

Hi Threeangels, glad you to see you back online. It will certainly take some adjusting, but don't feel bad about getting emotional, it's OK! I know you have a strong Christian faith - have you thought about looking for a new church in your area yet?
I hope things smooth themselves out quickly with your Mum, thinking of you all. xx

threeangels · 18/10/2002 17:04

Hi Jodee - Yes I have found a church. Before we took our vacation/business trip in July I looked up churches and we visited one. We will be going starting this Sunday. My kids are already enrolled in their christian school too. I know if I'm going to adjust the church members will be the ones to help me (besides my family). I have met a couple moms already so it has helped a little. Thanks for your reply.

Threeangels, it's good to see you back online again. It will take a while to feel settled, don't expect too much, too quickly and go easy on yourself. Hope it soon feels like home, all the best.

Scuba · 19/10/2002 00:14

Threeangels good luck. Remember you've tried to do what you think is best. Sorry to hear you're feeling low at the moment it's to be expected, give it time. I know its difficult for you to speak to your mum at the moment but when you feel ready don't let the distance or time stop you from keeping contact, she's obviousy taken it very hard. Even if you get snubbed initially do your best to show that you want to retain contact, persevere and it will probably get easier with time. Its all too easy for people to lose contact when things like this happen. My best wishes to you all.

Ghosty · 19/10/2002 04:35

threeangels, congratulations on your move! Well done!

It is hard, I know, but you will adjust and it will get better ...

tigermoth · 19/10/2002 10:39

glad you're back online and have found a church you like. Hope you feel more settled in the coming months.

jodee · 19/10/2002 14:47

That's great, Threeangels, I hope your children settle in OK tomorrow.

susanmt · 19/10/2002 16:38

Threeangels this sounds really daft, butis Va Vancouver, in BC? Just asking cos my BIL and his wife have just moved there from Ireland and are still looking for a church!

janh · 19/10/2002 17:08

cherry · 19/10/2002 20:44

Yes it's Virginia

susanmt · 19/10/2002 21:31

Just wanted to add my thanks for everyones thoughts. My dd had her first get together over a little girls house from her class. My dh and I talked with her mom for a while and I think we may have made our first friend. She said her and dh would have to have us over for dinner. I think its a start. I'm happy living here but (for those of you who have heard of this) with this sniper going around and randomly shooting at people is making me somewhat nervous. Its happening in all the areas around us. So far no ones been shot right in the small city we live in. The incidenses have been about 30-40 min surrounding us. Its pretty scary though. Especially when getting gas at night or going to the store. I'm sure all those people thought the same thing that I do about the chances of it happening to them are slim. Well thanks again.

Yes, I've been following the sniper story, Threeangels. It's very frightening as I can't think how on earth you go about catching someone who is doing that. Maybe someone in his/her family will have suspicions and alert the police. We have friends and family by marriage in the area, so stay safe, all of you.

janh · 20/10/2002 21:42

threeangels, I wondered about that when you said you'd moved to Virginia, I know it's near DC....(not that I knew where you were before) - anyway I think you just have to go with the odds on a thing like this and try not to think about it, 99.99% of people will be OK and you have to be in there too or you'd just stay home all the time.

Lots of luck anyway!

Marina · 21/10/2002 09:13

janh is right, threeangels, but I'd be anxious too - it's not like you have little else to preoccupy you right now, what with the move, finding your feet etc. Hope you are all settling in well, good to see you back on line.

threeangels · 21/10/2002 13:56

We did just have another shooting about 1hr away. This person seems to go a little more south of us each time. Its good for us but sad for the people living closer South. Many of the gas stations where shootings have taken place have gone as far as putting up large tarps to cover the side of pumps facing the roads. I guess to sheild people geting their gas.

Just heard a news report that two men have been arrested in connection with this. Lets hope that these awful shootings are over.
