Hi just after a bit of advice. Been in a relationship around a year with my ex Fwb. This is my first proper relationship so I’m very inexperienced. BF has a grown up Son he spilt with he ex almost 20 years ago but still doesn’t seem over her. In the past he may mention oh me and Adele went there once or I used to go to that pub with her. Anyway, recently it’s happening more and more that he will mention what car they owned together, a piece of furniture they had and talks about the house they lived in together. Basically at this moment I want to tell him to stop mentioning her and f##k off. I don’t want to come across as insecure but also I’m not being a doormat when he’s clearly not over her.

It could be triangulation. Him wanting you to feel not quite as good as Adele. It's working as you feel like a place holder. Better to be alone than badly accompanied by someone who is boring and doesn't cherish you

Maybe as he hasn't had many relationships he wants to sound normal.. (when I had a girlfriend)
My DP does talk about his ex but it is mainly negative.... Lol
Also sometimes it's relevant to the conversation.
I did tell him to stop talking about women from the past... "I went out with this girl once who...."
As we'd talked alot about the past I felt it was time to move on. I didn't really want all the fine detail on previous exploits. I think by mentioning an ex or the past alot means you haven't really moved on. I don't really want to have the past raked up. I would just say I've heard enough and it's not relevant to anything.

Sounds like the Rebecca novel.

Thats a seriously long time to hold a candle.
