How did you make good friends at 40 :)

Hi I'm new living in a city (Cambridge), I just wonder how other people make friends when living in a city. I'm finding it difficult even without lockdown. Any apps or similar that are good for friendship?

Some of my best friends were made through volunteering on projects I was interested in. Working towards the same goal really creates a bond and you already know that the person shares your values. Charity gigs, local community stuff...obviously more challenging at the moment.
Also those army fitness things can be good for meeting people as you end up getting a bit of a team spirit.

Made some friends through politics but that can also be a viper's nest.

Sorry, realise none of those are doable now but we won't be in lockdown forever. Some volunteer stuff like food banks will still be running

I was going to say the same as Prawn

Clearly not easy at the moment, but I think joining something you enjoy doing is the way forward. That can be volunteering, it can be a sport it can be something of a hobby, but the key is, you are doing something you enjoy. you then meet people that, automatically have a shared interest with you. Some of those you might form a strong friendship with. Of course, mostly they will be people that you 'get along with' and of course there is a possibility that there will be some you really don't connect with. However, it is a far better footing to start meeting people than some sort of "going out to meet people" .

MeetUp?

Also in Cambridge OP, and (usually) there are loads of opportunities here to meet people - Meet Up, CitySocialising, book groups, hobby groups, sports, exercise classes... Obviously things are harder at the mo. Do you have kids?

Message me if you like. Whereabouts are you?
