Does this new friend sound suspicious?

I met her in an online support group, as we’ve both dealt with toxic relationships. She’s quite a bit older than I am. I don’t mind that. But I am struggling with feeling paranoid and a reluctance to trust people.

She mentioned that she used to work as a spiritual healer and a psychic medium. That’s all fine and good, I guess. I’m willing to keep an open mind and believe that some people might have such gifts. I happened to mention to her that my dad passed away in 2019. By the end of the night she was suddenly saying that she got a message from my dad saying that he brought her and I together. That was all she said. I’m not going to lie, it struck me as a bit suspicious and possibly a cheap shot at me to get me to lower my defenses. I mean, if she could actually connect with my dad, couldn’t she have told me something more convincing? Something only he and I would know? Something more specific.

I don’t know what to think. She’s also randomly asked me physical things like how tall I am. In the back of my mind I’m afraid that she and her (still current) toxic husband might be trying something weird with me.

It’s disturbing how many creepy people there are in the world. Scares me.

It is astonishing how many people are so full of shite on the internet. It is creepy that folk want to reel in others in order to amuse themselves.

What a world.

100% avoid, avoid, avoid. As others have said, some twisted individuals will treat support groups searching out vulnerable people.

Whatever you have been through, take some strength from the fact that your gut has alerted you to the fact that something isn’t right.

I don’t have experience of online support groups, but would hope that your group has some form of admin support. It might be worth flagging your concerns with them?

Yes. She's a fake. A professional healer/psychic would NEVER volunteer such information unless you had specifically asked her about him. And then it would not be during a random online chat the way she threw that into the conversation.
Despicable woman.

For some nefarious purpose she's trying to reel you in.

She sounds like a grief vampire. If she were a true medium - and I am sceptical of those existing - she would be able to tell you a lot more than some wishy washy crap.

OP they are ALL fake people will always give plenty of anecdote but it's never been repeated in a controlled setting, shes a grief predator no different to Jehovah witnesses or LDS church members (Mormons)
