Is there any way to file for divorce without money?

Hi yes i did my divorce myself. To be fair we had no property to sell as we rented, and had no DCs so made it easier. I had an initial free consultation with a solicitor, filled in the forms, sorted the finances and got the solicitor to review forms before i sent to the court. It really was quite straightforward and court fees minimal.

No, there will be court fees. You can't divorce for free.

JustKittenAround · 10/01/2021 09:09

If you are in the USA you can get a waiver for court fees and free help to fill out the paperwork.

If you have no children or joint assets it can be very quick, if you do then you’ll need to do your homework.

I am not sure about other countries but it’s worth it to look.

You can claim an exemption from the court fee in England if you are of a lower income. They can waive some or all of it.

Online my husband paid £1,000 so not free but not completely ridiculous.

However, they had no children, no properties and neither objected to the divorce.

My exH & I divorced after 15 years of marriage with house & kids and we only paid the £550 application fees. Amicable divorce though.

Afishcalledwonderful · 10/01/2021 09:27

I divorced my ExH myself and it cost £550. Unfortunately, had to pay solicitors fees and half the costs of mediation as we couldn't agree on the financial split.

No, court fees are £550, or were when I divorced a couple of years back. It's possible to be awarded your costs, tho, so potential to get the money back from your ex.

I did a DIY divorce, so it did only cost the court fees. I saved up monthly for it as I wasn't in a massive hurry and had sorted out the practicalities with the ex in the interim.

If there are assets to divide, you probably need a solicitor to check things over, but don't need loads of appointments.

If it's very straightforward, then doing it yourself is not free but a lot cheaper. You don't need to use the online sites that charge, the gov. Uk has all the information you need really.
