Housing advice

So the brief version is that I'm trying desperately to leave a hostile and toxic marriage. Have 3 children one of which has already moved into my parents. She broke down over Xmas.
I'm secretly trying to myself and other children out too but it's so hard as at my parents we will have to all cram into one room.
I've done my sums and can afford to rent but money will be so tight. There are also not a lot is suitable places to rent.
Can anyone offer any advice or know if I'd be eligible to go on the council housing register. I wouldn't even know where to start

I guess this varies between areas but it is likely you could register for housing. Chances of being housed vary depending on area/demand. If there is any DV or police involvement it may increase your chances of being housed by placing you in a higher priority banding.

Not all areas having a housing list administered by the council, many areas have social housing provided solely by housing associations and with a separate website for applying. I’m sure if you were to google your county name + social housing you’d soon find it. Local councils usually do have a homelessness dept or ‘housing options’ dept who could also offer advice. Good luck
