My boyfriend (and the love of my life) has told me that 2020 has been the best year of his life "because I met you" awww β˜ΊπŸ’•
And then immediately said "but also the worst, because XXXX left me at the beginning of the year"

XXXX is his previous girlfriend.

What to make of this!?!?

Could it be that he isn't over her?
We have had an amazing majority of a year relationship, to think that he is still hung up on his ex after all the great memories we have made together this year?????

That’s fucked up! Makes you seem like second prize.

FelicityPike · 31/12/2020 17:16

Wow!
He has either not worded his feelings very well or he really is rather an idiot.

Bowerbird5 · 31/12/2020 17:19

Just tell him thanks very much if he says it again. Then add I wonder what 2021 will bring you...

JazzyGeoff · 31/12/2020 17:19

Ouch.

SnowyWiseOwlWan · 31/12/2020 17:21

blimey. Makes the pair of you sound like batteries.

The old battery ran down but he got a new battery, so it was all ok in the end.

He sounds a bit Defined By Relationships.

Onthedunes · 31/12/2020 17:25

Complete fool if he thinks this is what a woman wants to hear.
Sounds like his emotional and social skills are a little beneath yours.

I'd get rid, he sounds insensitive and will make future unkind comments in the future.

You're dating a fool.

Meowchickameowmeow · 31/12/2020 17:27

How long was it between her ending things and him meeting you? I get the impression it wasn't long and I'm always a bit wary of people who rush into things.

Brieminewine · 31/12/2020 17:56

Are you both 12?

If not, dump him asap

Packitin · 31/12/2020 18:07

What a prick

NiceGerbil · 31/12/2020 18:08

Was he drunk?!

What did you say to that? Something, presumably?

samyeagar · 31/12/2020 18:15

A really, colossaly, epically, awkward and clumsy way of saying the year started out shit, but ended great. Stupid, stupid, stupid...

But, I mean, I would never say anything like that, but no doubt being dumped early in the year did indeed suck to the point of it could really have been the worst part of his year, and he was simply stating a fact. Doesn't mean he's hung up on anything.

KittyKattyKate · 31/12/2020 18:23

Ummm in the usual completely messed up male way he is saying:

My life was 100% but theN my ex broke up with me.
I thought it could never be 100% again but then I met you and now it is 100% again. Who knew?!

The danger here is whether he will go for third time lucky though. Coz that is how a penis will reason.

Rockinmomma · 31/12/2020 18:28

He just sounds like an idiot. How old is he? How many adult relationships has he had?
I expect it sounded better in his head but still..... idiot

Wanderlusto · 31/12/2020 18:44

Does he often like to pull the carpet put from under you like that?

SandyY2K · 31/12/2020 19:10

Very clumsy wording from him....

AlternativePerspective · 31/12/2020 19:13

Very badly worded.

But I suspect that most would say getting divorced/being left would be considered one of the worst experiences in their lives. Even if they did go on to meet someone amazing.

category12 · 31/12/2020 19:27

@Wanderlusto

This.
samyeagar · 31/12/2020 19:40

@SandyY2K

Yeah, sometimes people say things with one intent, and it just comes out wrong.

Hell, my wife early on in our dating told me that the sex with her ex was great, and even though he was bigger than me, the sex with me was way better...Really? I mean, really? Haha

grapewine · 31/12/2020 19:43

@Wanderlusto

Does he often like to pull the carpet put from under you like that?
I wondered that too. How does he expect you to react to this? At best, he's a fool.
Dery · 31/12/2020 19:44

β€œYeah, sometimes people say things with one intent, and it just comes out wrong.”

This. If he generally makes you feel happy, loved and nurtured, I would let this slide.
