Is old really that bad?

I just downloaded tinder as I’m seriously bored, I’ve been single for 4 years, not a single date in that time and OMG within 5 minutes I’ve come across two profiles one saying “I’m married, yes I said it, like it or not!” And another saying he has a partner but he has not been able to see her over lock down so hoping to meet someone else and see where it goes Confused I’ve heard old was bad but is it really that bad or should I keep trying? This has literally been after 5 minutes downloading it. Where else are you meant to meet someone if you are a single parent with no social life? Or should I keep swiping and hope for the best?

I met two lovely men from OLD. I’m marrying one of them Grin

Hated Bumble, it seemed to have a disproportionate number of men who never replied to the first message. I concluded they just liked the fantasy that women wee chasing them.

OLD is nuts but tremendous fun if you have a thick skin and enjoy meeting a variety of people. You learn a lot about yourself.

Have I been living under a rock? What is OLD?!

ThisTooShallBe · 01/01/2021 14:58

OLD is online dating. A lot of the men on there appear to live under rocks...

MrsHugsxx · 01/01/2021 15:35

I met my husband on Plenty of Fish. I was on there 2 years before I met him and had experienced it all, good and bad. I think OLD is good as long as you don't take it too seriously and take it with a pinch of salt.

Givemeabreak88 · 01/01/2021 16:01

That’s interesting people saying about men never replying on bumble, I have heard that before so maybe they just like the thought of women chasing them? I have heard it’s for lazy men that don’t like making the first move.

I’ve still been swiping on tinder and it’s been errr... interesting!

It’s funny because after more swiping I’ve just come across a guy I use to go to school with, well I say go to school with, he was 2 years above me, but on there he is 30, I’m 32 😂 so he’s either stopped ageing 🤔 or lying, god this is depressing!

Yes, it's pretty bad. I've concluded that there's a similar chance of meeting a man who isn't married, a creep, a liar, a commitmentphobe or just a general arsehole as there is of winning the lottery.

Even if you ask the right questions you may just be told what he thinks you want to hear, regardless of whether it's the polar opposite of the truth.

It’s pretty terrifying! I was on Tinder for a couple of months and met 2 men for a date. They were both completely awful and I went on Twitter saying how much I hated OLD. Someone replied to my tweet commiserating, we ended up messaging each other quite a lot and we’ve been going out for nearly a year now.

I don’t know how people meet IRL though, particularly this year.

ZippedyDooDa · 01/01/2021 19:09

In answer to your title question: YES. YES IT IS. RUN AWAY FAST.

Ah thanks!😂

Granted there were a lot of frogs, unsolicited pics and utter weirdos to sift through, but I actually had a lot of fun OLD, even the not so great dates seemed to lead to so funny tales. I also met my DH on PoF so perhaps remembering it all with rose tinted glasses but I think as long as you don’t take it too seriously or spend too long engaging in endless text chat without meeting in real life it can be quite fun.
