I was dating a guy for a few months after a hard breakup. He was kind, caring, funny and we shared similar interests. I think I got cold feet and was afraid of being hurt again so pushed him away and said I just wanted to be friends.

We havent spoken in months but I think about contacting him a lot. I wonder if this would be a mistake. I'd like to give things another go now that I'm in a better place but wonder if I should just let things as they are? Anyone have experience of something similar?

Difficult one.... but what do you have to lose?

I'd message him. He has stayed on your mind for a reason. Say you regret pushing him away, explain why if he wants to hear it. He may have someone new... you need to be prepared for that. X

I broke up with a guy. a year later I got a letter in the post. I was surprised but pleased and wrote one back. Last I heard of him. But at least I can say it ended on a good note and he didn,t sound upset or bitter. Go for it. But don,t expect a relationship necesserily.

Thank you for replying. Ordinarily we would meet through friends but because of covid this hasnt happened. It would be easier to gauge his reaction if we could meet casually like this.

Sending him a message will be putting myself out there and it will be tough if he doesnt want contact or has moved on. It's his birthday next week, I could message him then but maybe that would upset his day...I really dont know what's best...

Send him a happy new year text. You could always blame it on booze.

@ILoveShula

Spot on. Do that. X

Tbh OP it has been quite a while haha!

It’s happened to the best of us. Don’t take it personally, maybe he’s dating someone new.

I was in exactly this situation, broke it off with someone lovely I was seeing after ending a 12 year relationship and 6 months later sent a message saying hi how are you etc, was taking for a bit and meeting up as friends ..... 3 years later we are engaged with a 3 month old son. Have faith Op, if it’s meant to be it will be

Did he reply to your message though? Mine is left unread on WhatsApp 🙈 I'm sorry I left it so long now but I wasnt in the right place until the last few months...

I would have thought he might just send a generic reply if he didnt really want to talk not just ignore me

I totally understand that he has probably moved on...its just such a pity...we clicked instantly in so many ways. Feels like I wont have that with anyone again and I really missed the boat here...
