Another mystery underwear thread???

I can't believe I'm starting yet another "where has this underwear come from?" thread. I keep reading them and not understanding how it's even possible... yet here I am about to do one of my own!

Spotted a few weeks ago while I was folding laundry. Wasn't paying much attention, but remember thinking "oh what are these?" but was in a hurry so shoved into my drawer and forgot all about them.

Until today, pulled them out while I was hunting for underwear this morning and got a good look at them. Black like the rest of my undies, but not the usual style I go for (full briefs, not the skimpy nothings that usually appear on these threads!) nearly my size, but from somewhere I've never bought undies from (Matalan).

As I said, they blipped on my radar some weeks ago so do I confront DP or what do I do? How do I even bring it up?

No guests have visited recently and have a dog but even he's not clever enough to put them in the washing machine or basket.

I feel mortified even writing this! What a cliche.

Another mystery underwear thread???

As long as you're 100% sure about them not belonging to visiting sister, elderly aunt etc, then hold them out to him and say 'Who do these belong to?' Don't tell him where you found them or when, just look him in the eye and wait for him to speak. If he comes up with a half-way acceptable explanation (can't think what though) then say you'll phone 'her' so she can collect them and see if he squirms. Good luck.

What is the history of the house you live in? Have you lived there for years? Otherwise the airing cupboard sometimes can have small items of clothing down the back that only surface years later.

EpochTime · 09/12/2020 15:00

Please say it's not just me who is experiencing a sudden urge to raid the washing basket and ironing basket?!
I've had random pieces of clothing turn up which I've washed - including undies - but have always assumed that I had picked them up from my son's bedroom along with his stuff and that they were therefore from my son's girlfriend at the time, so I've just left them in his room for her.

slidingdrawers · 09/12/2020 15:17

With the frequency of these threads, I'm starting to wonder if there is an equivalent male forum to here which is suggesting planting random women's knickers during December in the home!

notquitealonealone · 09/12/2020 15:27

Second thread I've read today on mystery undies! how does this even happen with an innocent explanation? I for one will be checking my laundry basket every time I come back from being away I reckon.

teateateateateamoretea · 09/12/2020 15:28

how does this even happen with an innocent explanation?

I would have thought an innocent explanation is more likely in most houses.

littleloopylou · 09/12/2020 15:29

I agree with @lifestooshort123

Chickenwing · 09/12/2020 15:29

I would assume the dog has brought it in off someone washing line and then your husbands chucked it in the laundry.

If your husband was cheating he wouldnt be silly enough to put his side piece's pants in the laundry basket.

Have you any reason to doubt him?

EpochTime · 09/12/2020 15:31

I like that we get a photo of them! What size are they?

Sunflowergirl1 · 09/12/2020 15:31

I'm beginning to think it is good way of creating trouble for neighbours you don't like putting them on their washing line with the rest! However this time of year I'm guess you are not hanging washing out

iwanttoridemybicycleiwant · 09/12/2020 15:33

No cleaner I take it?
I found a pair of women's knickers once which weren't mine, but at the time we had a somewhat flaky cleaning lady and I just assumed that she was sneakily doing her laundry and had left them behind. But then, she had form for leaving other stuff about etc, and I know people say "you can never tell", but it would deffo have been out of character for my OH (too much effort lol) to have a fancy woman.

movingonup20 · 09/12/2020 15:58

Have you stayed somewhere eg someone's house? Been to a leisure centre and scooped up a pair left on the side by mistake? Lots of innocent explanations

seensome · 09/12/2020 16:10

Have you stayed in a hotel recently and taken extras home? Once my exh came home with extra socks, luckily for him they were just socks!
Have you got teen son/daughter any women that visit you?
I was thinking maybe there were a gift for you but from Matalan so seems an unlikely place to buy gift knickers from.
Ask him?

Dashel · 09/12/2020 16:14

South Park has underpants gnomes who steal men’s pants, we seem to have a knicker fairy who gives them away or liberates them to a kinder home with naice washing powder and more spacious draws to live in.

We had a mystery pair of sockets turn up. Never did get to the bottom of it, but when we went to a holiday cottage i found a pair from a previous occupier. DH would have just picked them up and not realised they weren’t ours, but I left them with a note. So I wouldn’t be surprised if in some of these cases underwear is found by a dh and placed in the wash without the assumption that it doesn’t belong.

mumwon · 09/12/2020 16:31

goodness my life is boring - all I discover is (a) odd socks & (b) odd t shirts
Seriously op - have you recently stayed somewhere - gone swimming ditto - or gym etc or has anyone in your family done so
or the random - it was in the airing cupboard when we moved in - at the back/bottom or ditto in the attic
I find it hard to believe that all these dp/dh/dbf of mns have lovers who randomly leave their sexy black knickers in their washing/ironing pile -

tinseltamer · 09/12/2020 18:03

We don't have an airing cupboard so they've either had to have found their way in the machine or the washing basket. Said basket has been emptied, refilled, emptied dozens of times since we last stayed anywhere.

No cleaner. Just the two of us at home. Haven't been to the gym or swimming.

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 09/12/2020 18:25

Theres just the one pair of lacy black knickers and they move themselves around from house to house, only Mmumset houses though.

Beebumble2 · 09/12/2020 19:00

When we had our CH changed some radiators were replaced. The engineer found a variety of underwear behind the radiators.
The previous owner had obviously been drying then there. If DH has come across then he’d have just put them in the washing, assuming they were mine.
Reasonable explanation

noodledoodler · 09/12/2020 19:30

Funny how the phantom pants are never mens strides

myfatiguehastiredness · 09/12/2020 19:42

You haven't had a friend round and they've fallen out of her handbag. I carry a spare just in case pair and had them nearly nearly fall out while routing around for something. Why does this sound really euphamistic???

Lsquiggles · 09/12/2020 19:42

Have you asked your dp?

cakebythepound1234 · 09/12/2020 19:43

No suggestions here but reminds me of an incident from a few years ago. The day after we'd been to the cinema, my DH (boyfriend at the time) messaged me a photo of some knickers asking if I'd left my knickers in the car?! They weren't mine so I hadn't (and I would never leave my pants in anyone's car!) and was totally baffled. Then I remembered when we left the cinema I was getting quite a few stares from people but couldn't work out why. We eventually worked out that the most logical (and ick) explanation was that the person who'd sat in the same seat before me must have taken off her knickers presumably to get up to no good in the cinema with someone, and then left them there where they then got stuck on my jeans when I sat down. Hence the stares from others, and them then falling off in the car on the way home and being left on the seat. 🤢

RollneckJumper · 10/12/2020 14:57

OP, where do you keep you washing basket in your house?

Have you asked DP yet?

Valleygirl27 · 10/12/2020 15:05

I know it's not the same as underwear but I once found a guy's t-shirt in my house. Wasn't exDH's and had no idea whose it was, I felt like exdh might think I was guilty of cheating or something, which I absolutely wasn't. Years later and was looking through old holiday photos and saw my cousin wearing it in a photo, it must have somehow made it's way back with us but didn't appear in the house until about a year after the holiday.
