Apple maps

Does anyone know how Apple Maps works in terms of listing recent places? Stupid question but does it show the location of where the phone is or does it only show a location that has been searched for?

A few months ago DH sold a phone to his mate that was mistakenly still signed in to DH's apple ID. To complicate matters, that phone was a trusted device listed along with DH's current phone and a couple of older phones and an iPad. Some weird stuff has been happening recently and I'm trying to get to the bottom of it. The first thing I'm trying to work out is why the iPad would show a location of a local holiday lodge complex when - as far as I know - DH has not visited nor has searched for.
Is it possible another phone visited the holiday lodge and that info is passed to the iPad via the apple ID?
BTW there was a posting on this board recently by someone about finding an email detailing a delivery to a holiday lodge - that was not me.

It sounds like you don't trust your husband. I don't know about the apple stuff but you should trust your instincts

Unless I'm misunderstanding if the holiday lodge only showed up when he sold the phone is it not possible the person he sold it to went there? Or did he tell his friend to sign out of his ID on that phone when he realised and so that wouldn't be a possible explanation? I've never owned an Apple phone sorry so just guessing.

I think if the phone is somehow still logged in to his account, it could be showing it there, even if he no longer has the phone. But is there anywhere nearby the holiday lodge he could presumably be going? My phone says I routinely visit a local stately home, when actually I'm parking to drop dc off at school (which not particularly close to said stately home).

ive just searched for a location on my phone and it shows up on my ipad, so its possible the phone sold is still showing on your DH's apple ID so seeing all searches

on my iphone if i go to settings, then icloud i see all devices logged into my apple ID
may be worth doing that to see whats still on it - you should do this anyway for security
