So I have a 1st hearing coming up.

I am having a barrister through legal aid.

Cafcass will speak to us first apparently.

Can anyone advise me or share stories? Is it scary?

What kind of situation is it. Was there domestic violence? Cafcass will speak to you both and do a safeguarding letter at the FHDRA hearing they'll decide what direction you to in. I'm going through the Family Court now as I had to flee domestic violence and take my daughter away from the horrific household. He wasn't supposed to get interim contact and his Barrister bullied his way into it. I would say prepare for every eventuality. Be child focused the whole way. Don't talk about your feelings towards your ex. It is daunting but you will be strong.
