A mother you feel you want to support and look after but who every time dumps a load of her dark misery on you !

Any practical tips other than NC (last resort)

Does she do this to everyone or just you? (In non-covid times, assuming she is not seeing many people for now). Does she usually have hobbies/friends to vents too?

Would suggest you look at and post on the current September 2020 well we took you to Stately Homes thread on these Relationships pages.

Consider also what your boundaries are like here with regards to your mother. Would you tolerate her behaviour from a friend?. Probably not.

You cannot act as a rescuer or saviour in any relationship and your mother does not want to be helped by you. She merely wants to dump on you. Read also about fear obligation and guilt, I mention all of this in respect of your comment regarding your mother you feel you want to support and look after. Out of the Fog is also a good website and I would also suggest you read Toxic Parents by Susan Forward.
