Odd behaviour or just me?

For context I'm 35 and live with my DD15. Have been with boyfriend for just over a year, he stays over maybe 2 or 3 times a week. Boyfriend and DD get on well.

This might seem a bit strange but it's not the only time I've noticed something like this so thought I'd ask what people think!

Last night boyfriend came over for dinner. Once finished he went in to the freezer and hid the only remaining ice cream so that he could eat it a bit later. My DD normally has one for pudding.

I asked what he was doing, he laughed and said he wanted the ice cream so had hidden it so DD couldn't find it. I immediately removed it from the 'hiding place' and gave it to DD who had just walked in to the kitchen to get one.

There have a been a few incidents like this. I've been stewing on it all night (I know that may sound a bit silly), but that's not ok surely?Confused

Do men not realise what a huge turn off it is???
Like you would find a GROWN man sexy after hiding ice cream from a child.
Yuk yuk yuk

TwentyViginti · 02/12/2020 11:32

Reminds me of the penis portions dished out to men by some women.

frewer · 02/12/2020 11:32

If he's at yours, then he's saving on his own bills surely. Anyway that's all irrelevant, he doesn't have a generous nature and that is so unattractive.

Shoxfordian · 02/12/2020 11:38

He shouldn't be helping himself to anything in your house

MissDoLots · 02/12/2020 11:38

Yep, this would piss me off and the takeaway thing would be the last straw.

LemonBreeland · 02/12/2020 11:40

He is hiding food that you bought, from you your child, when he doesn't even live there. I'd be having strong words.

cardswapping · 02/12/2020 11:49

Not fine and not equal. Also on the takeaway, it would be 2/3 your cost but since he suggests the takeaway and you would normally have eaten/prepared your food, it should be his cost.

Simplyunacceptable · 02/12/2020 11:50

It isn’t his house or his ice cream to hide so yeah, that’s not ok. I have definitely hidden treats from my own children to eat once they’re in bed but they’re my children and it’s my money/house.

Bunnymumy · 02/12/2020 11:56

@Aerial2020

One takeaway week does not balance it out at all
Well...one takeaway for a family of 3 so...say 15 quidish minimum? 1/3 being his though. So a £10.

Home made meals are lots cheaper. So technically one take away per week would easily balance out one home cooked meal surely?

Although you could argue it is still a small amount to pay considering he is a guest in ops home.

But factually if anything, he would be paying more.

As for things like electric ect, they'd surely be in the same rooms anyway so not really applicable.

But we dont know how often he buys in the takeaway. Or if he also eats op out of house and home so that it invalidates that contribution anyway.

Spied · 02/12/2020 12:02

I'd not find a grown man going I to my freezer to hide an ice-cream from my DD attractive at all.
Takeaway thing would take the biscuit!

Aerial2020 · 02/12/2020 12:12

Doenst balance it out because homemade meals are cheaper???
OP would be cooking for another adult. That doesn't live there. She's not his parent.
Why can't he cook? Lazy Sod.

Aerial2020 · 02/12/2020 12:14

Guest don't help themselves to ice cream
A childs ice cream.

Aerial2020 · 02/12/2020 12:15

You know what it is OP, a takeaway is minimum effort so he can push it to do what he likes in your house. Pushing what he can get away with.

PotterHead1985 · 02/12/2020 12:27

Fuck that. That is just not on. Bin him off. And make sure he doesn't rob your yeokens on the way out the door!

SirMoanalot · 02/12/2020 12:32

Dump the tosser and give romance a rest til your children are older.

This.

Homemade meals are only cheaper if you assume that the labour is free.

He's certainly the type! Grin
youvegottenminuteslynn · 02/12/2020 12:43

Do you really think the best you can hope for is a man who hides ice creams you got for your daughter?

He sounds selfish, childish and I have the ick just reading about him.

He sees your home as somewhere to get free dinners.

Raise your bar - you deserve more than that and your daughter deserves a better relationship blueprint than that.

Would be better for her to see you being an independent woman rather than someone with a bloke who hides ice creams from kids...

youvegottenminuteslynn · 02/12/2020 12:43

And agree with others, keep your eye on your yoghurt tokens Grin

Bunnymumy · 02/12/2020 12:48

Maybe he does some of the cooking...?

I'd guess not but you never know.

lilmishap · 02/12/2020 12:49

@SirMoanalot she shouldn't have any romance until her kid is older than 15?
Why?

ellabobble · 02/12/2020 12:53

He buys a takeaway once a month roughly. Does help with some of the cooking if I'm really tired (although I've bought the food). Does a bit of DIY. He walks my dog for me if I ask. So he's not completely useless... However it's the sneakiness of the ice cream incident and a few other similar things that are making me Hmm

OP posts:
Bunnymumy · 02/12/2020 12:56

Yeh I wouldnt say be was a cocklodger as some considerd. But I totally agree with the icecream incident (...sounds like a band name xD) being a red flag. It's really not on.

TwentyViginti · 02/12/2020 12:59

I feel the 'similar things' he does would make me frothing! Grin

I really really cannot bear cocklodging behaviour. Hiding ice cream YOU'VE bought from YOUR child is a new one though.

Shetoshe · 02/12/2020 13:06

Oh I wouldn't like that at ALL. That one little incident gives so much insight into his character and you say it's one of a few incidents... I would be seriously considering the relationship here.
