It made me bleed and put on lots of weight. If you are planning on having children in the future then be aware it can delay fertility returning for up to a year.

1littlequestion · 28/11/2020 22:05

Was very reliable for me, as I had no sex drive whatsoever 🥴.
Also bled as pp said.
I was pregnant within a year after my last injection (having heard it was still in your system for up to 1 year after last injection).

Wouldn't recommend, but I appreciate everyone's different. Hope this helps

hilariousnamehere · 28/11/2020 22:06

On it for 19 years, in relationships for 9 of those years and no pregnancies. Definite weight gain although this doesn't bother me, and no periods which is wonderful. I've no intention of ever having children or coming off it :)

Gunpowder · 28/11/2020 22:11

The implant is the most reliable if that’s key.

Nikki360 · 28/11/2020 22:24

Was on it years ago bled constantly no sex drive and put on lots of weight. Never again.

Lucyccfc68 · 28/11/2020 22:34

No issues here. I did have it after having a child, so can’t comment on fertility issues.

Popped to the nurse every 11 weeks, no weight gain, no issues with sex and best of all, no periods.

Was gutted, as it’s recommended to stop having it at the age of 50. 7 weeks after stopping, my period started again.

Daydreamingdil · 29/11/2020 00:04

Ive been on it for years in between pregnancy and now were done will continue it. It is reliable, some months though i spot a lot and bleed after sex then nothing at all, had it checked and its just a side effect apparently.

EarthSight · 29/11/2020 00:11

It's probably one of the most reliable contraceptives out there, but once it's in your body, you can't stop it as far as I'm aware. You would probably have to hope the side effects go away. Could be wrong though.

With any hormonal contraception, there are effects on your free testosterone and estrogen which can lower libido and sexual sensations.

Chewwithyourfuckingmouthclosed · 29/11/2020 00:15

I liked it for a while but it killed my libido, I had issues with dryness and I bled.
After being on it for years they suddenly decided there was a link between osteoporosis and the injection. I was close to the mark regarding my oestrogen levels so decided to switch to something else as I was worried about my bone health.
I would never recommend it to anyone.

2andahalfpints · 29/11/2020 00:25

Reliable, no periods at all which made me a bit hormonal. Loads of weight gain, no sex drive

cheesecadet · 29/11/2020 10:46

Very reliable, took away my periods totally. Took about 12 months to conceive with all my babies and I put on weight which I didn't realise was that until I came off it. Probably about a stone. I am now off it because the doctor wouldn't allow me to carry on until I had a bone density scan which revealed that I had Osteopenia. So no more Depo for me!

Plonque · 29/11/2020 11:08

Same here, and I think it induced the worst bout of depression I've ever had. Never again and I will not be letting my daughters near it, if I can help it !! Ghastly. Really really ghastly - never again.

Komersantka · 30/11/2020 17:57

For the time I took it, I gained a lot of weight for the first time in my life. My moods swung horribly (also in a way never before seen). It took a while to get it out of my body and go back to normal, but once it had worn off, none of this came back. I did not know about the effects on bone density either (I didn't take it long enough for that to be an issue), but I did question why a healthcare provider encouraged me to get it without mentioning that little fact! I think it's totally unpredictable what it will do - some people are fine, for others its awful.

sunnydays78 · 30/11/2020 20:32

I had it once. I swear I was so depressed, this isn’t something I suffer from or have I ever since. It’s the worst thing I’ve ever taken. I went back to the doctor after two weeks and he said unfortunately it was quite common. I thought I was going off my head.

Tangledtresses · 30/11/2020 20:34

My best friend had it from 40 to 46 in that time she went through the menopause 😬 another friend had it was absolutely bonkers until she came off it 😱

sunnydays78 · 30/11/2020 21:02

@Tangledtresses that was literally me!!

Ahh yes I've seen it a few times friends going off the rails once they've had it 😱 Personally I came off contraception at 24 and felt like me,,,, wouldn't touch that crap with a BARGEPOLE 😀
Nikki360 · 30/11/2020 22:09

I've never really heard any good stories about the injection. I was so glad to get off it.

Nikki360 · 30/11/2020 22:10

I also forgot my appetite was huge when I was on it. I never felt full either.

TalesTheCat · 30/11/2020 22:24

On it 8 years, no bleed at all and wight gain (tho I sis quit smoking so may be that) was great to not have to worry
BUT it took ages for my periods to come back, and 5 months later they are still really light and last 2 days and spotting. If I was ttc I'd be worried and wanting it checked as I doubt my lining would be OK for ptegnancy

MoonPomme · 30/11/2020 23:23

I was on it for 9 months and bled constantly.
Ive had an implant for 3 years and get on well with that, no bleeding at all, no hormonal migraines, slight weight gain but the pros outweigh that con for me.

feistyoneyouare · 30/11/2020 23:29

I found it very reliable/convenient (especially as it stopped my periods), but I did put on a lot of weight whilst on it.

Fuckoffyoueviltrolls · 30/11/2020 23:41

It was reliable. Like others I gained almost 2 stone on it. I didn’t have a period for 8 months after the last injection ( I had three injections total) I bleed for almost 18 months after. I would never have it again if I’m honest. I know someone who had it for years, had no side affects at all - and loved it.
