Am I too sensitive ?

Partner moved in for the lockdown. After a day, has given me a list of things that my flat needs, has said he will put money towards.
Better lamp, better duvet, better kitchen equipment, and one or two other things i've forgotten. Then was complaining the chairs were hard.
Made me feel a bit embarrassed and inadequate, he comes from a very well-to-do background, and I have all the basics and get by fine, but no fancy extras.
He was cooking and asked 'Don't you have this ?' don't you have a better xyz'

Am I being too sensitive in feeling a bit upset/embarrassed ?

I must have come across as a bit off,

I haven't exactly got him living in squalor or going without, but it's true his home is very fancy and well-equipped.

Tell him to bugger off back to his own home. Surely he knew what your home was like before he moved in? He doesn't sound that nice - are you sure you want to be locked down with him for a month?

Twinkle1989 · 05/11/2020 19:11

Please don't feel embarrassed!

I don't think you're being over sensitive either - I actually think he is being insensitive! Quite who he thinks he is I don't know!

I would point it out to him sooner rather than later and hopefully he will get back in his box and think before he opens his gob again!

category12 · 05/11/2020 19:11

I'd be inclined to tell him to fuck off back to his own place.

Twinkle1989 · 05/11/2020 19:12

If his home is so fancy and perfect, I'd tell him to piss off back there and enjoy being lonely with his posh lamp 😂

Zena389 · 05/11/2020 19:12

I do have a lamp, it's just not very good, and fair enough my duvet is a bit flimsy but I have plenty of throws so it's never cold.

formerbabe · 05/11/2020 19:13

I'd be inclined to say he can pay for it all or fuck off home.

Zena389 · 05/11/2020 19:13

It's just embarrassing as it makes me feel like some teenager or something who doesn't know how to look after themselves, yet that's far from true.

How long have you been seeing him?

Zena389 · 05/11/2020 19:15

6 months

@formerbabe

I'd be inclined to say he can pay for it all or fuck off home.
^ This.

He may have plenty in the way of ready cash and material possessions, but he has sod all in the way of manners.

IndieTara · 05/11/2020 19:15

So he must have been to your home before and stayed over?

Zena389 · 05/11/2020 19:16

Yes he has, he mentioned the lamp once before but nothing else.

nahdenmardybum · 05/11/2020 19:16

What type of person has specific lamp needs?! Weirdo!

wildthingsinthenight · 05/11/2020 19:16

Insensitive snob!

mbosnz · 05/11/2020 19:19

He's a very rude chap, isn't he? And what a delicate little petal that he can't possibly manage with your lamp and duvet. They give you light, and keep you warm, that's what matters. If he feels he can't possibly manage to rough it at your place, well, he can always do the other thing, can't he?

MissSmith80 · 05/11/2020 19:19

If it's not good enough, he can always go back to his perfect pad.
Out of interest - why did he come to you instead of you going to his?

Onthedunes · 05/11/2020 19:19

Seriously he handed you a list?

Much better would have been him buying them himself and offering them as presents to make life more comfortable for you both during lockdown.
Does he know what manners are ?

He may come from a well to do background but he's not very polite.

How rude

MilerVino · 05/11/2020 19:27

He's insensitive and rude. Unless he has some great redeeming qualities and sees the error of his ways I'd be inclined to bin him off.

missmouse101 · 05/11/2020 19:30

Just say, "ok, if you want to pay for them, great. Otherwise, I'm perfectly happy with how things are."

Rollingdragon · 05/11/2020 19:33

If his home is so much better why are you not both staying there for lockdown?

category12 · 05/11/2020 19:35

Really he's a cheeky bastard.

How dare he come in and be all critical and snooty?

Is he expecting you to buy these things to his taste? Pay towards them, indeed.

Fuck off home, Lordy Bountiful.

MikeUniformMike · 05/11/2020 19:35

Is he paying towards bills?
I've been in a similar situation and the cocklodger was sent on his merry way.

EatDessertFirst · 05/11/2020 19:36

He sounds like an insufferable, snobby bellend.

Tell him to bugger off back to his own place if he doesn't like yours. Permanently.

greenspacesoverthere · 05/11/2020 19:37

What an unpleasant rude insensitive man. I'd tell him to leave for good
