be honest and respectful
while the relationship was running be faithful

BigFatLiar, if I suspected my (now adult) son was anything like the men I see discussed on MN I would be devastated. If I encouraged him not to move in with anyone, it would be with a sense of responsibility towards the rest of the human race. But then I have lived my life mainly surrounded by men who are vastly different from the kind of man who usually features in Relationship threads. I have lived surrounded by men who pull their weight as a matter of course, who don't need a woman to help them to relate to their own children or to remind them to look after their own household.
