Why do people stare and laugh at learning disabled people?

When I’m out and about with my girlfriend I’ve noticed people staring, smirking and laughing at her. Why do people do this? It’s very nasty from them. It’s just also random strangers doing this. And also has this happened to you?

That's horrible o.p I've no idea why they are laughing at your girlfriend. They are obviously very ugly on the inside to be so callous. Does your girlfriend get upset or does she not notice?

As pp said, it is something uncomfortable inside themselves.

Thankfully she doesn’t notice most of the time. But it does annoy me at some of the stares and sniggers she gets from the strangers, some of them being middle aged.

She also doesn’t feel like leaving home because of the stares and laughs etc.

How do they know your girlfriend has learning difficulties, are these people you know?

I’m so sorry you’ve had such a horrible experience. I used to support people with learning difficulties and I have to I say that I’ve never seen this. The occasional stare but never laughing. Is something specific happening when they laugh?

They are not of people I know of, but she does have a short height and child features (small hands etc) but it annoys me of their pure ignorance.

I think in this World of ours, some people are just born to be nasty, sarcastic and shallow. Feel sorry for them because the life you are leading is so much better then theirs. Their attitude would have been taught or ingrained in them. Not nice.

I find kids tend to stare at the unknown. Very disappointing adults are also doing this.

If someone judges on the outside, they aren't worth knowing. Hold your head high and walk past these idiots. You can't change idiots like this unfortunately. But don't let them spoil it for you!
