So I've recently started with online dating and have been out with a few guys. One of the guys I met up with I've now seen twice. We are in a similar situation as in both going through a divorce after a long term relationship. We got on extremely well and all his comments afterwards were very positive. The next time I was supposed to meet him he had to cancel as be was ill. He has also since had to self isolate for 14days as he had been in contact with someone who had tested positive for covid. His contact has dropped off quite a bit although he does still text but seems to take ages to respond. I was texting him at the weekend and out of the blue he said 'i do miss you you know'. At first it made me happy to hear that but then the more I Thought about it the more I just thought maybe he's just saying it. I said that I was surprised to hear him say that due to his reduction in contact and he just said I do think about you I'm just struggling with being in isolation. I know I should see what happens and go with the flow but I just overthink. Any thoughts? xx

It's been a pretty weird year and it's unusual for him having to self isolate. I'd consider letting him off on that one.

In any case, it's early days. Try not to overthink.

It’s an odd comment though. How can you miss someone you’ve only met twice?? Any chance it was a misdirected text?

Dogssox · 12/10/2020 17:13

You'd think being in isolation he'd be in contact more wouldn't you? I think he is texting other women and that is why you aren't getting so much attention. Saying he misses you is just a way of reeling you back in to keep you interested while he sees what his options are.

FeckOffCup1 · 12/10/2020 17:16

I think if he was keen he’d have upped the contact if he genuinely had to cancel due to being ill/ isolating in case you got the impression he wasn’t interested. I’m sorry but it sounds more likely that he’s keeping you on the back burner while he sees how it goes with other people.

Odd for him to say he misses you after only 2 dates.

BeckiC1987 · 14/10/2020 11:13

Thanks for your comments.
Since the comment he made at the weekend his contact has dropped off again. He ended the conversation with I'll speak with you tomorrow. We had a two text conversation the next day and then a bit of a convo the day after, then he basically ignored me when I asked him a question
I just don't understand why you would go out of your way to tell someone you miss them then not get in contact.
I know I need to see how it goes but do I text him today just asking how he is or leave it with me being the last one to text. I don't want to appear desperate but I just can't let the comment slide

It's because he wants to keep you interested while he checks out his options!

FeckArseDrinkGirls · 14/10/2020 11:51

He’s keeping you on the back burner while he sees how it goes with his preferred options. If he decided she doesn’t like them (or more likely they don’t like him) then he’ll up contact with you again. You will only ever be an old faithful to this man, men very rarely change their mind about these things. Don’t contact him, you are worth so much more than this. All this will do is destroy your self esteem and waste time that you could be using to meet someone who actually likes you.

Thank you just needed to do a sanity check 🙂

He doesn't sound that interested, I wouldn't message him again unless he contacts you and starts sounding more enthusiastic. Are you still talking to other guys? If not I'd get back in the game!
