How did your DCs cope with separation?

We're due to tell our two DD's about our separation soon. I'm doubting my decision as it's going to change their lives forever. We'll have less money, will have to downsize in a year, they won't be part of a normal family unit anymore and will have a double life, one with me and one with him. There's no abuse or rows, and it's my decision to separate, so what I guess I'm saying is they don't currently live in a home that's detrimental to them. They don't see any affection between us and know we stay in separate bedrooms, but other than that we're just a normal family. DD's are 10 and 12. How did yours cope at that age?
