Why oh why do men never phone their parents when they say they will?

Pah
We live in England, pil/my parents live in Scotland.

Dh told his parents we would be up at half term. We have finally been given a date to move into our new build of the 26th October (after waiting months), its too long a trip to go for a few days and come back, so we have decided not to go to Scotland. Dh says he will phone his parents to tell them.

Have just had phone call from pil to say they have caught a train and then a bus out to a big shopping centre place to go to M & S to get a jacket I asked them to get for dd as mil gets discount in M & S and that they had got it, no problem and were looking forward to seeing us soon.

I was in the middle of Tesco's when they phoned with ds gibbering away and didn't have the heart to say we weren't coming anymore.

I am so annoyed with dh he said he was phoning them to tell them we couldn't come and to cancel the jacket order as by the time his poor mum pays postage to send it to us, I could have just gone to our local M & S and bought it, saving them a trip.

I guess the morale of the tale is do it yourself.
