How can I separate from my husband?

For the first time I am not able to work (looking for something alternative that suits my health but no success yet) and this makes me feel like I won't be able to separate from my husband due to financial issues but I cannot carry on living like this. There is no violence or anything untoward occurring. We have 2 girls, 11 and 5. He loves them but is not involved with their lives. It is like having a 3rd child and I have to do all his thinking for him and the rest of the house. There are a lot of medical issues going on with my daughters and he knows the bare minimum about them - not for lack of me trying to get him involved. I am in the extra vulnerable category for this dratted virus and he says he cares about my life but he can't be bothered to take simple precautions if they cause even the tiniest of inconveniences to himself - I am talking about washing his hands and basic stuff. (Please do not turn this into a Covid discussion). This is just yet another thing but it is so hurtful to have someone who supposedly loves you have such complete disregard for your health. Anyway the list could go on. I need to know if it is possible / how to separate from someone (he refuses to leave the house) when you have no income currently. The kids would have to come with me because he just wouldn't bother to get them to school on time, he clashes madly with 11 yo DD who is v hormonal and he doesn't know how to deal with her and just inflames the situation, he wouldn't remember about their hospital appts etc. Of course, I don't want to leave without them either. What do I do?
