Relationship with in-laws

What’s you relationship with your in-laws like? I think mine are a bit odd because they don’t do emotions in this family especially the men. They are a bit rough... and I think they do not know too much about what’s going on in dhs mind.

Friends of mine complained about their in-laws who are exactly like mine... and think it is bad for their dp to have parents like that.

How do you think?

To give a bit background info. A friend of mine told a story of how her in-laws hat no idea what was going on her dhs mind. Other friends their in-laws were just like this and they agreed that in-laws like this suck and should be avoided.

Do you think it is especially bad or do you think this is just the way many relationships between grown up men and their families are?

Is this the board for in-laws questions or just for marriage questions by the way?

I don't know if it's common but I was surprised at how little connection my DH has with his parents, it's all superficial.
